I posted a question that is Ovation related a while back and I did not get much response. No problem, I am just hoping someone on this list knows where I can get a good performer guitar stand that will hold my Ovations? Gracie made a fantastic stand that was designed for deep and shallow bowled round back guitars. They, it seems, are out of business? I really need one now. I am working on some songs where I need to play the 12 and return to the BAss real quick? Help. I can't find anything like those Gracie stands.

I'd seen them all over about a year ago when someone (it mighta' been Strummin12) was looking for one, now they seem to be "discontinued" . . .

Well, THAT sucks!!

I dunno, Randy . . .

I wish I knew all your memebers actual names I only know a few of you but thanks guy's.

I have several sites that still list these for sale but they all reply with a "Not Available At This TIme" response. I'll try this one anyway. I think Gracie had trouble because of their prices they are quite expensive for a glorified drum cymbol stand with a guitar attachment on it

And Yeah I guess unless someone comes out with a good stand I'll have to wait for Fleabay. Anyone got one they don't use anymore?

OK now that I thinkin about it perhaps I could make a good one out of a drum cymbol stand or something similiar?

I was thinking maybe an old mic stand with a hefty weighted base (for gigs, my vocal mic is on a boom attached to an old Atlas Sound mic stand with a heavy cast-iron base . . . to which I've added 25lbs. of barbell weights. I can extend that boom FULLY and that stand is still "rock solid").

You also might wanna consider a hefty bongo or timbale stand.

After that, as far as an aparatus to connect the guitar to . . . . you're a smart woodworker . . I'm sure you'll figure something out . . . ;)

BruDev; I have looked at a bunch of other stands. I found the Gracie stands are expensive but quite well made. They also had the only set up that held a round back guitar in place really well.

Bet these guy's went belly-up the week before I was ready to buy one?
Someone will most likly buy out the company and their stock and re-market these at twice the price!

I am looking into making one I think it can be done. Need to find some adaptable bent chrome parts that I can mount Schaller locks on. and a brace that runs under the body to hold the face of the guitar. Lots of good Drum & Speaker stands out there.

I'll try and post a photo if I get it to work.

Thanks guy's Randy

Hey these are quite nice! had to tweek the holders a little for a good fit but is to be expected. I also had to add a little extra padding to the bars that hold the face of the guitar. They have a flocking material on them but this is very thin. Yes I said Flocking? NOw all I have to do is practice swinging that big bass guitar around to the back so I can step up to the acoustic quickly. putting together a band and playing more than one instrument and singing is such a job man. I find I am physically tired after about an hour of hard practice? If musicians didn't like making music so much there wouldn't be any shows! Cuz the money you make getting started is nonexsistant. It is a hard days work! And I am just practicing!

Lovin it though.

Thanks for the heads up these are tough to find.

Randy;

Instead of swinging the bass around behind you (envisioning a decapitated bass headstock), maybe consider setting the acoustic in the Gracie stand a little "high" so that you could just step up to it and the bass would tuck up behind/underneath.

Pictured is Michael Dunford of Renaissance (circa. 1978) doing just that:

I seem to remember an extra bit of padding on the backside of the stand's "upright" to prevent it from marring the instrument behind.

Renaissance used these stands (and Adamases) quite a bit. I seem to remember one song ("Midas Man") where the guitarist, the bassist, AND the drummer were all playing them (the latter two on stands).

Anyway, . . . maybe something to consider . . .

Yep I have thought about it. I will have to pad everything though. That bass seems to find stuff to hit that ain't there! And with enough padding to make the bass safe it will look like crap. I also sling my Bass at a normal height. I do not like the low slung bass. Might be good for the Metal maniacs but not me. And with the Ovation at a level where I can play it; well even the headstocks of the bass and the O bang together? Can't really pad for that. I'll get moving that bass around down.

Thanks guy's

Randy

Hey that's a nice photo. Where did you get it? I ask because I would love to buy a copy if it's an actual photo.
