Hello everyone, I have a question on what I think is the most beautiful Ovation out there. The wonderful wood top Adamas. Ok, I know of three that are out there. Sam, Al, and TJR have one. Is this how many were made? Are there anymore out there? And, how does it sound compared to the early deep bowl elites. I really like the way the Adamas walnut neck looks with the spruce top. Awesome!.....Paul Hebert

I also feel that my woodtop adamas is the best sounding ovation i have.My slothead is second..I think that the combination of the woodtop, deep bowl and the adamas bowl ring binding giving it an even deeper bowl gives these guitars a richer, balanced sound, more martin than ovation like..It reminds me of a D35 martin which is one of my favorite martins..

Paul.. The wood top Adamas is by far my favorite Ovation guitar. They just look so good too. It plays effortlessly and has a deep rich sound that you are welcome to hear if you ever are in Southern Maine. I agree with Sam’s comment about the sound being more "Martin" like.
It sounds very different than the other traditional Adamas I's and wood top Elites. I just love the simple elegance of the non-electric version... Talbot

Talbot, the picture of yours is beautiful. Can you tell me how you were able to get it? Are you the original owner? .....Paul Hebert

Paul.. thanks.. That guitar was given to me by my Father, Jim Rickard who had worked at ovation for many years in the Engineering/Design realm. He passed away just over 7 years ago so this guitar is a real treasure to me. I'll try to dig out the other photos.

Talbot, I didn't realize Jim was your father. That is neat. You really have a history of Ovation with you. I must tell you, I love that wood top Adamas. I know my Adamas is a great looking guitar, but for some reason that wood top Adamas really gets me. I know it is a treasure to you. I would really cherish that one...Paul Hebert

Also to be considered as the most appealing is the light tan and green dragon skin finish Thunderbolt guitars. The Pink one with matching head stripe is special too!

By studying the time of day of his posts and cross referencing it with the weather over Northern Florida, you can always tell when Bill's had a bit too long of a stay at the "19th hole". :D

Hey CWK2, did the same guy who designed the Thunderbolt come back to design the MOB? Seems these two horrible guitars were beat with an ugly stick!...Paul Hebert

I just read up and I understand thAT Jim Ricard gave it to someone i.e..woodtop Adamas if CKII is cool with it, so am I. It sure would be cool to build someone 100 of them, or more.

The thunderbolt and then mob have nothing in common. The Thunderbolt was designed by three brilliant engineers and conceptual design blokes that had way too much white. You decide, Martha or Lightening.

The mob was designed recently so the three intelegent blokes from before got left out of this one thank you.

Actually if the T-Bolt had been an imported guitar for $400-500 range it would have done quite well. Trying to be a real guitar(even though it is) at $1400 was too much for the public to take.

To the Ovation purists those guitars have somewhat the same effect as your dad showing up at breakfast in drag.
