Joined: September 2003 Posts: 171 Location: Indiana | I started to post this on the poll thread but my vote won't count for much and shouldn't because I am pulling the plug on an unnecessary expense as we head into winter and won't be around anyway. My role as a member of Veteran's for Peace is also requiring my time elsewhere. This is more of a personal note. As much as it may surprise some, I'd have to say no to that that poll also because we all know where it would end up. I wish we lived in a time and place where I could focus on fun things like fishing and guitars. I still find peace in those activities but life in 2006 has required sacrifices that are difficult...both for myself and countless others. I wear my heart on my sleeve and that gets me into trouble sometimes but I have no regrets (other than a failed marraige). I have always appreciated this place and the people that have made it happen/work. Three things motivated a divorced 43yr old to take up the guitar a few years back. First, was my love of music...especially guitar music. Second was a great group of guys I went to school with that have a popular local band and are a blast to hang out with. We buried the drummer of that band just last week who died at 47 of cancer (RIP smilin BOB!...your friends love you, man!) Third...was this board. It has been a place to learn and laugh...two of my fav things to do. It was also a source of inspiration and encouragement which any beginning student at any age needs...but especially for us old farts. I hope things work out where I can come back some day and the world is a more peaceful place and life in general isn't such a bitch. But that isn't just going happen without an awful struggle and a lot of hard work. Brain T.....I feel your pain, dude...Politicians aren't going to fix this fucked up world...they have sold out to the highest bidder and no longer represent the common man. If it can still be fixed...and I will not say it can't until I no longer have a breath in me.....it will be fixed by "We the people"....you and I...all of us! I owe it to my son to do all that I can....he deserves that much. "Thinking globally and acting locally" is wise but takes hard work and sacrifice. I'll never give up music because we all need that special place we go to...that refuge and place to lick our wounds/lift our spirits. But as a matter of priority, my online bills and time must give way to more urgent matters so the end of this month is the end of the line for me. Guitar talk can wait. I think as Americans we have been apathetic and complacent in our Constitutional responsibility to restrain our government and hold it accountable. Things have gotten dangerously out of control and now we have a government that desires perpetual war, consolidation of power in the executive branch of government and the end of civil liberties such as freedom of speech, privacy and dissent. If that doesn't scare all of us...it should. We currently enjoy the freedom and leisure time on boards like this and many others to talk about guitars or whatever we want and that is fine. But I hope one day that the masses don't look back with regret and say..."I wish we would have done something when we could". I have no problem with keeping guitar boards about guitars. What I have a problem with is Americans becoming brain dead zombies lost in a million distractions while our country goes to hell in a handbasket and we do nothing about it. I also have to let my FD-14 go (but will keep my 1614) and will put up a note about it tomorrow on the for sale list. To Al and Miles...you guys have done a great thing here...Thank You! To cliff and paul and all the guys that helped me laugh and learn when those were the things I needed...man, I appreciate it. To Brian T....your heart is in the right place my friend...but the battle isn't here. I had been off a while and your posts reminded me of where that battle was. If you need an ear or just a friend to vent to, drop me a line and I will give you my phone#. I wish everyone on this board peace and happiness.... Mark

I disagree with only one comment you made--43 is not an old fart. I hope you have a lot of life left in you. Maintain those convictions.

Joined: September 2003 Posts: 171 Location: Indiana | Thanks guys....man you guys are awesome. I'll be back again I'm sure and didn't mean to make it sound so permanent. I was a little down and had a few beers. Short version...I just need to apply my time and money someplace else for a while. I moved to my grandmother's home after she passed. It was smaller and closer to work...plus it's a quiet little farming town which I like. I moved out of the home I grew up in and that community has lost over 3000 manufacturing in the last few years of our "strong economy". Houses are for sale everywhere that just sit there for months. Mine is one of them. Indiana was second in the nation in foreclosures in June. I worked too hard after my divorce to get back on my feet to become one of the statistics so it is time to get creative, tighten the belt a little and get busy. When I get this taken care of, I'll likely be back. This place is addictive. I've learned a lot and laughed even more. I hope the times we live in will one day mellow out and that we can enjoy things a little more without the riffs that come up. Today, those riffs are inevitable...things are just too tense and turbulent right now and musicians are passionate expressive creatures by nature so some of us either bite our tongues or let it out. Overall, I think Al and Miles have been very understanding a fair. take care guys...thanks to the guys who inquired about my guitar. I wrote ya back. Peace! PS. I have been trying to learn John Mellencamp's "Another Sunny Day". It's a good theme song for how I feel about things and a nice acoustic tune. We see it on tv we get calls on the phone By the prophets of doom they wont leave us alone The planet is dying and theres no time to spare They spend all our days sowing seeds of despair We get enough bad news to harden our hearts This fear what we feed on is whats keeping us apart To say that we doomed is just an obvious remark And it dont make you right it just keep you in the dark I dont want to live angry I dont want to live scared I dont need no more prophets crying Brother beware Just put some work in my hand And give me a dollar to spare And dont let me sow those seeds of despair Well this earth is a graveyard it will swallow our bones It was here long before us it will be here when were gone And its a vain generation that looks for a sign Dont you think we could make better use of our time Yeah, the air could be cleaner and the water could be too But what we do to each other are the worst things that we do And we can treasure our freedoms behind our locked doors But God speed the day when were lonely no more I dont want to live angry I dont want to live scared I dont need no more prophets crying Brother beware Just put some work in my hand And give me a dollar to spare And dont let me sow those seeds of despair
