Glen complained about not feeling well & his throat, but delivered quite a good performance. He couldn't hit some of the high notes, but at his age do we expect him too? His 3 kids (drummer, lead guitar player & the very pretty female) played well and are together as a group also (Instant People). They were the opening act. If I have a complaint at all - it's pretty basic - the show was too short. Glen was only on stage about a hour & fifteen, but did deliver. Playing was great, he was joking around with the crowd and really seemed to be enjoying himself. I would recommend that if you get the chance - go see a legend while you can. As we learn as we get older - the legends aren't here forever.

A tremendous presence and bitter sweet concert... It was a very warm concert. He struggled here and there, but you don't care. He laughs and makes faces and comments during the songs when he messes up...but he can still rip the guitar and still make his songs take you back to the 70's. When he sang The Moons a Harsh Mistress...I dont think he missed a note. His kids amazed me at their level of professionalism. Regardless of what Glen was doing, they were very tight and entertaining. You would think, by the show they gave, in backing him up, it was an HBO special, not a casino show. His boy played an Adamas most of the time. Glen played is black "acoustic" viper, a Hamer 12 for Southern Nights, and a blue electric with split offset pickups. A night that I am sure is meaningless to him, but I will remember forever.

Time is obviously very short to see Glen Campbell play live, so if you have the chance don't wait. He struggled quite a bit during the show with his language and with memory. Alzheimers and dementia have affected his ability to find words and then string them together in a sentence. He was able to express his joy of performing and his deep appreciation for the audience. But he was unable to tell any jokes or anecdotes. He has declined quite a bit compared to the descriptions in this thread from 6 or 7 months ago. As I understand it, with Alzheimers his thoughts are there but the ability to communicate is damaged. He had video monitors on the floor between the audio monitors, and he needed them for every song. Even for the standards which he must have played thousands of times. Interestingly he never failed to remember the melodies. He seemed a bit agitated or unsure at times, which got worse during the show. He was on stage for about 75 minutes, but it was a bit too much. He peaked at about 45 minutes. His vocal range is still outstanding, and he sounded just like Glen Campbell. He was a major influence on me wanting to play guitar back when he had his tv show, and I wanted desperately to buy an Ovation because of him. So I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to see him play live. His guitar playing was variable, mostly quite good but he had a lot of trouble in 2 or 3 songs. If you go see him, go with the understanding that you are not seeing him at his best. He does seem to have good humor when he makes a mistake or loses a sight line with the video monitors. His adult children are outstanding musicians. They played for about 30 minutes or so before Glen came out. His daughter watched over him on stage like a mother hen. It was heartwarming to see that he has such protective kids who are taking care of him.

He did remarably well during the show we went to he only flubbed a few lines, and told the same joke twice, but I swear, he only missed a note or two during all the playing. Its such a shame that he's declined so much in the past few months but if anybody is thinking about seeing him you should do it before you won't ever have a chance to.

There were a few obvious and minor bumps in the road but for the rest of the time you almost had to be looking for them. He had 3 monitors on stage. At the start to the song he might glance down. He kept on singing while moving from stage right to stage left. He joked and told a story or two. Rather than "confused" I'd label some of what I witnessed as "caught up in joy". Strip away all those thoughts and memories and all you have is the moment you are in. The man was certainly living in that enjoyable moment. I'd say it was 85% damn good show and 15% bittersweet . Here is a link to pics of the show I was at.... . http://gloriousophotography.smugmug.com/AndiamoCelebrityShowroom/Gl... Edited by Slipkid 2012-06-30 8:33 AM

Here is a link to pics of the show I was at.... . http://gloriousophotography.smugmug.com/AndiamoCelebrityShowroom/Gl... Maybe he just had a bad night here. His language was very impaired, to the point of not being able to get out more than one sentence at a time. He tried to tell a story about John Wayne before playing "True Grit" but it ended up not being very coherent. He mangled the guitar playing of the first song. After that he did a lot better in general but he did have a couple of pretty bad moments in other songs. Sara observed to me that the sound guy was having to work pretty hard, meaning that he was riding the faders to keep the worst parts muted. From our angle we could frequently see that his son was playing the same notes as Glen, and I think the sound guy switched to the son's signal when needed. On many of the songs he only referred to the monitors every few lines, as if he needed to be reminded of the first few words of the next verse. On some of the songs he was definitely reading his way through them. His singing sounded great through the whole show, he just needed his memory helped out with the monitors. The middle part of the show was very good once he was warmed up and in the groove, before he got mentally fatigued. As you said, it was 85% a damn good show and 15% bittersweet. We've been through the Alzheimers/dementia thing with my FIL, and it is my wife's area of professional expertise, so we were not put off by Glen's deficits. It was nice to see his bravery and good humor in dealing with his health issues. Edited by FlySig 2012-06-30 11:12 AM

We were within 20 ft of of stage and I had my camera but a stage hand came around before the show and asked us not to take flash pics. From that close they tended to throw Glen off the rails. He asked his daughter what key several songs were in, but once she got him started, he really took off. After reading about some of the same "mistakes" in other shows, I'm not sure when he was really screwing up and when he was just poking fun at himself.
