Location: Texas | I have been a fan of Bireli for many, many years.
Ever since I heard him at a record store in Austin years ago and wanted to see if it was a new Django record that I had missed.
It was his 1st album recorded at age 13, wow! this is what Guitar Genious means!!
Bireli played Adamas and Ovation guitars for many years, still has a few models that he uses.
A new DVD has been just released from a concert of his latest "GYpsy Project", "Bireli Lagrene and Friends, Live a Vienne" in 2002.
UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!! I loved it!!!!!!!!
Man, Bireli is a monster player!!! and that is an understatement. After watching this I really think that there is no other acoustic guitarist that can play this style like him, man!
He has such great feel, touch, ideas, etc. Plus besides the concert, there is footage of a young Bireli playing solo kicking butt at the Montreaux jazz fest, plus interviews, in the studio, backstage, etc..............simply incredible, I am humbled by this guy. For sure one of my all time favorites!!!!!!
I met Bireli years ago when we played at a Jazz Festival in the same bill, I told him how much I admired him and what an inspiration and influence he has been in my career. He was humble and a super nice guy. We jammed backstage in my dressing room with a bunch of people gathered to watch, we laughed, he told stories and we had dinner and a few beers afterwards.
I have many heroes in the guitar world and Bireli is very high on my list.
You have to get this DVD for sure!!!! Highly recommended.
