On a whim, I used the ‘81 Legend Limited for Sunday’s service. New strings and battery. Felt just like old times. What a great neck. However, I couldn't stop the feedback from the A string. This is my only guitar that does this. There was no time to work out the bugs before hand so I ended up playing most of the service with the A string damped. I'd forgotten that I perfected this technique years ago out of necessity because of the A string feedback. It is still there.

Sounds like you need a new A string.

Seriously, the cheap fix is adjusting monitor and mic angles -- but you probably know this.

Depending on whether it was main or monitor howl, have the sound guy locate that frequency band and EQ it out. Pro fix is probably an individual notch filter in your signal chain, such as the Behringer Shark.
