I was given a very nice old Martin hardshell case, that will nicely fit my shallow body celeb. However, i noticed a mite taking a hike inside the string compartment. I was wondering what you guys with lots of guitar cases do to keep the bugs away? I know some of you guys have a hundred guitars. Do you spray? What do you spray? Moth balls?
Thanks!

Boraxo, spread - set(24 hours) - vacuum.

Works on fleas and carpet as well.

And save a bundle on your car insurance?

I would stay away from chemical warfare since you'll be laying your O in there.

Mites in your guitar case are better than crabs on your organ!

Now, I remember putting borax, around places where roaches and mice walked, but is that something different from Boraxo? Any more bug cures? I don't want to spray anything in there that will eat the guitar, but I don't want to give up the case. What a dilemma! I bet most of us never noticed.

Man I love old guitars but, Ya just never know where they've been!

Put your Cat in the case for a while the bugs will get on him!

Then poor the Borax on the Cat to kill the bugs!

Ohh man I'm in trouble now! Just kiddin I love my stupid cat.

And it does not kill mits or bugs as far as I know but to keep them out of things I have a can of natural cedar oil and a few drops of this in the case away from the areas that touch the guitar smell good and it does keep most pests away. Randy

Many (many) moons ago I worked in an upholstery shop. When we took in used furnature to recover for resale we were required to have it fumigated. Try looking under 'fumigation services' in your yellow pages or ask at an upholstery shop. As I recall it was pretty cheap. No residual odor either.

Nils thanks for thinking out to the case, I mean box. I'm going to the hardware store to see what they have for spraying on furniture to kill bugs. If you can lay down on your couch after it's been fumigated, then it shouldn't hurt your guitar, I reckon.

If it were me, before I went about spraying chemicals into it, I'd give it a very, very thorough vacuuming (and immediately discard the vacuum bag) and then examine it thoroughly for any further infestation . . . .

My advice is to pick all the mites out of the case very carefully.... Pour something into their tiny little mouths to make them throw up... Then reassemble the vintage 1940 D-18 that they ate and sell it on ebay!...

Well, from what I saw at the hardware store, the chemicals stay effective for 6 months, so I'm a bit hesitant to spray them. It doesn't look like they'll eat the guitar, but they'll get onto my hands. ARgh.

I think the fumigation outfits use poison gas of some sort. It goes into all the nooks, crannies & padding to kill any little beasties, then the gas dissipates so there is nothing toxic left to hurt people or pets.

Very simple solution, and one I use against mosquitos in my bedroom.

I asked myself a question: How many times have I been bitten by mosquitos, spreaders of deadly "West Nile Virus", answer, thousands of times.

How many times have I been bitten by a spider? None. What do spiders eat? West Nile virus mosquitos and totally irritating flies and their relatives.

Therefore; I allowed the spiders to build webs and flourish in my bathroom off my bedroom and I herd pesky flies and mosquitos into their fatal webs while I sleep devoid of fatal West Nile bites. I cheer on their busy fight to rid us of pesky and fatal insects as I set on my john, safe from such threats.

The only hard part is dealing with the spiders tendency to capture flies in their webs and chew off the wings while they are alive, therefore preventing them from escaping, but also, keeping them alive so they don't deteriorate, they just crawl around my bathroom with no wings and eventually are eaten by the spiders in their own good time. It is hard to be sympathetic to a fly that has irritated the s--t out you when they could still fly. I just look the other way.

Bailey
