They were announcing her upcoming shows here in NYC and of the release of her album. They also mentioned the similarity in her style to the late great Mr. Hedges and that she was one to watch as being "up & coming". You GO girl!!! UPDATE (2 mins. later): They just announced that within the hour (it's now 11:42pm Eastern time) she'll be live in the studio!! WFUV streams on the Web at www.wfuv.org Tape WILL be rolling!!!!

I believe she's playing tonight in the City at a place called Joe's Pub at 7pm (wish I could make it!). New album comes out next Tuesday. Hey John!, I hope you and Michelle didn't come out to see us Sat nite at the Rattlesnake in Denville - we didn't play - we got dicked out of the gig because some nimrod there "double-booked" the date! Bastids!!!

I have never listened to streaming radio before because broadband internet is not an option out in the boonies where I live, but dispite the 'ripples' in the audio stream, the interview and the music came through great. For those who didn't catch it, there was also lots of great talk about the 'unusual guitar' she was playing and how woodies don't quite cut it for the low tunings she prefers. Again Kaki, congratulations and keep up the great work, and good luck on the CD release! Wayne (one of those 'older guys in his forties' :D )

I hear a lot of gig horror stories, but thankfully haven't experienced it much myself. Each time I do hear 'bout 'em, it reminds me of all the advice I've gotten to make a simple contract for gigs to protect from that kind of thing (& non payment). Doze bastids won't fo'get sheet when day gotta pay you (AND da utter band too) anyway fo' showin' up cuz it's in yo' contract ta git paid dat night fir playin'. Sorry you and your fan base had to deal with that. That just plain really sucks. Johnny

Of course, I went straight to the station's "live, streaming audio" link and tuned in. About 20 minutes before the interview started, Kaki telephoned me on her cell phone. I'm pretty sure she wanted to surprise me and tell me to tune in. Instead, I surprised her by picking up the phone and saying "Don't tell me, but I think you're just about to go in the studio for a live interview, right?" I heard her turn away from the phone and tell the people she was with, "He already knows!!" Of course she wanted to know how I found out, and I said "Cliff just heard about it on the radio, and posted it at the OFC." We had a good laugh about it. We agreed that once again the OFC had been a good friend to us. Like you mentioned, she did say some nice things about me, but after all, she knew I was listening! Big thanks for the heads-up. popcritic

Please offer her my apologies, but as soon as I heard her name mentioned on the radio, my ears pricked up and I HAD to get a "head's up" on "the Board" (I blame it all on that goddam little "chip" that Miles implanted into the bases of our collective brains up in Connecticut!)

So that's why I tuned in to hear Kaki live on radio (with earphones) and just pretended to be busy working here at the office! Cliff, thanks again for the heads-up; it was a very interesting interview. She's so cool about guitars and the way she talked about them was so natural, no one would miscontrue that for a shameless plug. Just me and my Adamas!

Are they all based on the original (Adamas II, deep-bowl, cutaway, single epaulet) that you/she had, or are there some variations? Wayne

She's becoming a real star and we all should be proud of her choosing Ovation. (Most of us think all stars should play Ovations, but we are prejudiced). Popcritic Keep up the good work and keep us informed, sometimes the support of a group like this may help as we all love a star who plays our guitar. Bailey

I know of only two guitars, but there could well be plans underway for others. Both guitars can be seen at her Adamas Artist page: http://www.adamasguitars.com/artists_k_king.html The guitar she is holding is an Ovation Longneck DCS247S. I have not personally seen it, but she says the only marking inside the guitar is the word "Prototype". Could this possibly be an early model or prototype designed for Preston Reed? She says it produces amazing low tones, and I believe she has begun to use it onstage. The other guitar (partially visible behind her) is the one Ovation made for her to replace the vintage model that was stolen in December. It is a "modern" Adamas II 1581-7 with single cutaway, double epaulets, deep bowl, and OP-24 (I think) electronics. The neck has a satin finish as opposed to the glossy finish on the vintage model. A photo of this guitar can be seen in the Member's Gallery under the popcritic link. She is playing it onstage at The Fillmore in San Francisco earlier this year. It is probable that Stonebobbo and I are the only OFC members to have actually heard this guitar onstage (however, it is the one she played in yesterday's radio interview). Bob also saw the Fillmore show. I would describe the sound of this guitar as more "brilliant" overall than the vintage model, which had a "darker" tonal quality. Wayne, even though you're in the 'boonies', I'm really glad you were able to tune in yesterday's interview, which was dynamite in my opinion. Finest regards-- popcritic
