Location: Madison, Wisconsin | Not to fret, even if Dave's supplier of string tubes is out of business, I think I may have located a manufacturer that will make String Brushes for a nominal fee. I've shown him my design and he feels it shouldn't be a problem to make several different sizes for the different wound strings of a guitar. I'll keep you posted as the product develops. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Do a search in the vault. Baasiclly they are thin poly tubes that you use as feeders for threading your strings through the bridge. You REMOVE them once the string has passed through the bridge. They keep the string from acting like a rasp and reaming out the bridge hole. No matter how careful you are, the action of pulling the string through the bridge clogs the string with fine microdust and it deadens the string. Using strng tubes both protects your bridge adn improves your sound. Unfortunately my materials supplier has gone out of business and I'm in the process of qualifying a new source. Location: Cherry Hill, NJ | I've been using flat wound strings lately. Since they're completely smooth, they fit through the bridge holes like butter. Although they don't sound as bright as round wound strings, I can sleep better at night knowing that my guitar strings are not filled with bridge wood micro dust, causing dead string sounds. |
