Joined: June 2016 Posts: 34 Location: British Columbia | Found a 12-string Glen Campbell for sale on Amazon; was listed as a Project guitar. By the time I figured out how I'd take care of shipping (organized a post office box as seller not shipping to Canada) the Amazon listing expired; but I called their store (after having permission from them via Amazon messaging) and we began discussing the details of the the guitar. Then they turned around and offered to sell it to my for $450USD. I expressed my disappointment; they wrote back asking me, What did I want to pay? Again, I said well what you had it listed at $250 plus I'll be paying more for shipping now that its out of the Amazon atmosphere (it went from $5. to $40 for shipping) and this is what I'd hope you would honour. Now I see the seller has listed it on eBay rather than even getting back to my last email responding to them. So lousy! Even though we're in communication/negotations they chose not to tell me they decided they were going the eBay route ... nothing like being duped about a price and then still being strung along. So, if anyone sees the Ovation 1618 just know that they originally listed it at $250 and then changed their tune to $450. when it came to a customer wanting to buy it. I'm feeling deflated. Was so stoked about getting an Ovation 12-string (right now I'm using a friends but I really want my own)! Thanks for letting me vent. This is a great site...I'm learning a lot.

Some of the guys here have some horror stories to tell, with beautiful Os at much higher prices arriving destroyed or never arriving at all! You"re gonna run into stuff like that from time to time on the net. It may take awhile, but hang-in-there, you'll eventually find one. When you do, it is going to be worth the wait "and-a-half". Good luck with your search!

Those long cracks on the lower bout are in the wood. Those cracks on the back of the neck don't look good. None of the photos actually show the string height. Screw 'em... Have patience. Another one will show up.

They may have been in communication with multiple people about selling the guitar, not just you. They are free to list the guitar anyplace they want to and for any price they want to. It is up to the buying public if they think it is worth it or not. I personally don't think the guitar is even worth 250. You may be disappointed in the seller, but I do not see that they have screwed you in any way. Just my opinion.

I'll keep my eyes peeled and hopefully something local that I can hold on to comes up; and in the meantime I have a nice 1115 12-string from my friend so I still have enjoyment :D

An unplayable guitar needs major work, which should scare anyone away, except for someone who can actually do the major work. Here's how it would have worked for you: $350 by the time the guitar gets shipped to you. Another $100 to ship it back and forth for the work. If it's fixable, another $500 to make it playable and you still have a guitar with finish cracks. There's about $1000 in a guitar that's not worth that much.

Please do not forego due diligence, especially on Craigslist, in attempting to score a guitar. But, if you put enough legwork into it, you can score a really good guitar at a really good price. Good luck!

Know this: There can be great deals out there...some of them will be fine, some of them will suck, but if you happen to deal directly with the people on this board, they are class acts. They will tell you like it is - and will represent the guitars accurately. Over many many years, only a couple of prank wanks have shown up here - and they aren't active posters any more. See what is available from the members here. I have a Model 1115 Pacemaker in solid shape....if you don't need electronics....I never thought of selling it - but if you are interested pm me for the details....$250.00 plus shipping would be fine...I have another 12er in another universe cost wise that is my go to 12er so it mostly hangs on the wall. I have a 1751 just like the one Jay posted and I thought I got a killer deal on it for about 3 times that much. There are some risks with Craigslist deals and many sellers don't like to ship, so buy from an OFCer or have one check out a guitar for you if you want to avoid some risk.

Geez...after seeing elginacres offer, I'M being blinded by GAAAAAAAS....Arrrrrrrrgh.... Of course, the offer wasn't for me, and it would be really in bad form to intercept a kind offer for ThatGirl, and...It's always about this time that reality sets-in and I realize I live in the farthest eastern corner of the world - a nice corner of the world for certain - but not the most inspiring place for seller's to ship beautiful Os too. "Reality" is the medicine that keeps my GAS in check...ahhh, I need a cup of java... Edited by arumako 2016-06-16 7:55 PM

Another member pointed out to me that it looks as though it might not be a Glen Campbell model; which wasn't what drew me to it -- I just liked the gold turning pegs, and was crossing fingers it was just full of checks that were cosmetic. Anyway....it wasn't meant to be and now I'm relieved! I'll stick to keeping my eye out here and reverb, especially for online transactions....already have a PM out ![]()

I've purchased plenty of items from the US, using my WA PO box (The Mailbox, great people and service) as well as coming right through to my Canadian address; a pretty diverse selection of items and I've have never had any real issues. Only one item from China didn't show up but it was pretty cheap so I survived. However --I also totally see the Vendors point of view. I'm a vendor of custom art (sculpture) and am well versed with the reams of paperwork and the stress of shipping delicate items. I had more fun US shopping when our dollar was close to par ... now it's more than a pinch for both sides when you add up all the factors.

Joined: June 2016 Posts: 34 Location: British Columbia | I found myself a much nicer Ovation 1615 in my own Province the other day. All of your were right -- hold out and a better one will come along. I was going to buy Marks/elginacres (which is still prettier than mine) but this one popped up and it just made sense to buy local. I believe Mark is posting his in the Sale section soon....for those of you with your GAS issues ![]() A little drive and an alight guy .... $425.00 CAD.... probably could have pushed for a little less considering he wasn't forthright on part of the guitar that I called him on. The bridge where the strings laid has been modified and the work is really shoddy but it does seem cosmetic; when my budget allows maybe I'll take to the shop and maybe get it cleaned up. This is a really decent forum....
