The only thing better than an OFC Tour Ukulele Workshop is TWO Ukulele Workshops!

IMAGE EDITED SO MOODY DOES NOT CALL ME.

Ukulele Workshop No. 1
Friday May 18, 9:30-10:30 AM
Homewood Suites

This workshop is for those who are not visiting the factory tour on Friday morning

Ukulele Workshop No. 2
Saturday May 19, 9:00-9:30 AM
Homewood Suites

This will be a condensed version of Workshop No. 1 for those who could not make it on Friday

Workshop Description
The theme of the workshop is "Ukulele For Guitarists". Meaning that you (hopefully) have some basic guitar playing ability. I realize this is a stretch, but hopefully you know how to strum a guitar, finger a few basic chord shapes, etc. The goal is to share with you my experiences of transitioning from guitar to ukulele and help you avoid some of the mis-steps and frustrations. Topics will include tuning, playing techniques, strum patterns, chord structures, transposing from guitar. We'll play some different tidbits to demonstrate various techniques and will (hopefully) conclude with a rousing group ukulele performance.

Inducement Door Prize
We will be giving away to one lucky attendee a brand new Ovation/Applause UA-20 Ukulele. It looks like a miniature U681.

Instruments
If you have a ukulele and can bring it, great. Not having a ukulele is NOT a reason not to attend one of the workshops. I will have about 15 or so ukuleles that I can bring along for you to use.

Handouts
The handouts from the workshop will also be available on line at my website. So even if you can not attend one of the ukulele workshops due to severe hangover puking sickness, you can still down load the reference information.

IMPORTANT ITEM # 1
You need to register for the workshop by sending an email to AL. Follow the instructions in Al's post re: the OFC Tour Workshops

IMPORTANT ITEM # 2
Please email or send a pm to ME and let me know the following 1) which workshop you will attend, 2) if you need to borrow a ukulele or not, 3) any suggestions of specific things you would like to cover.

Thanks,

Dave

I want to officially go On Record and say that I'm exTREMEly offended by that picture . . .

. . . and how it paints ukeleles in a bad light.

I've signed up for workshops on Friday and Saturday mornings and for the life of me, I can't remember which is which.

Hey Cliff, bite me.

Did I just read 'important' and 'ukelele workshop' in the same sentence?

Bummer I couldn't make the uke workshop. But other priorities called. I was so hoping that the group would end up performing something like this:

Actually Bobbo, Freddie & The French Fries decided to take a more classic rock approach. Not sure if anyone caught it on video this year, but the band consisted of yours truely + Brad, Jerome and Tom on ukuleles. Moody on guitar, Temp on lap steel and Kim on bass. Cliff sang. We had exactly zero run throughs as a group before hand. Never the less we proudly donned our french barets, moustaches and F&TFF shirts and tried to do justice to some Procal Harum "Whiter Shade of Pale". It could have been worse. Dave

By the way - slight delay in getting all the workshop materials on the web. Seems my CD's with the files are in the guitar cases currently in transit from CT. Dave

Yes, Tommy M won it. I had to do a little bit of a scramble because of the 2 uke sessions. Some of the folks attending Fridays session were not going to be around Sat AM. So I took the Friday attendees plus those who I knew were coming Sat and picked one at random to announce Friday at the jam. Congrats to Tommy M for winning the uke. Dave

I've got that beautiful uke, in my studio. Thanks Dave for enlightening me on the transposing of the guitar chords to uke. I thought I was gonna be stuck in the key of C for the rest of my life. Thanks
