Location: Sunshine State, Australia | Has anybody taken the neck off their single sound hole LX? (The models without the removable access hatch.)
If so, what's involved? Is it just a matter of undoing the 'bolt' or 'bolts' ? (how many are there ?)
Is the neck also dovetailed onto the body? Or does it just 'fall off' once you've removed the bolt/bolts?
Any advice gratefully recieved. (other than 'DON'T DO IT'!) |

Location: Phoenix AZ | It's a natural thing, I suffer from this my self. The engineer in us just has to disassemble thing, even brand new, just to figure out how they work. It can actually be a very educational process and knowing the fine details of how something is put together makes me appreciate it all the more.

DVD, you KNOW that he will look at that link on dilithium and next thing you know, he will be wanting to know it it's posiable to put a small fission reactor in the bowl of an Ovation to replace the 9 volt battery... |

Location: North Idaho | Reminds me of my old high school science teacher. He took apart new appliances so he (as claimed) knew how to fix them when they broke down. When the new automatic washing machine arrived, his wife was more than surprised when she came home to check it out and found it in pieces scattered across the utility floor. From that time on, SWMBO limited his educational dismantling to his personal items only.
Reassembly is the next best thing to the old educational Heath Kit products. Actually, they were extremely educational when having to hunt down a cold solder joint. |

Location: Hiram, Georgia | I, for one, am one tick off individual, I've been on this message board for nearly three mos. and nobody yet has tried to sell me a set of those string tubes. They save your bridge,make your strings last longer and a 101 other uses!
How does one get a set of these things? How much are they? please e-mail info to:

Location: Phoenix AZ | Well, looks like the String Tube supplier (Scicominc) has probably gone tits up. Too bad because they were located right in Lake Havasu AZ which is not too far from me. They still show up if you do a google search (Scicominc.com/polyethylene.htm) but their site is dead.
I have found a new supplier. Below is their website and I think you could just buy direct from them and cut out the middle man (me). The size that you want is the model number MRE-095. I haven't ordered yet from this new supplier, but their stuff looks maybe even better quality than Scicominc.

I'm pretty good with stuff like this, obsessive even. I reckon I could reset the neck myself with the right advice.

Location: SoCal | I would suggest a short discussion with John or Kim (or, preferably, whoever does service for Australia)about this...either one could either warn you from doing it or (as I believe) give you a couple of pointers to help. And, advise you as to whether this would void the warranty.
Whether this is covered by warranty or not, I would suggest that it be done by whoever is factory authorized and experienced/trained. |

...and not RELATIVELY new... ABSOLUTELY new!
TC... I don't really care about the warranty any more. It's invalid anyway as I bought the guitar from Victor Litz in the US and it's now in Australia.
Ovation insist that I return it to the retailer to get warranty work done. The shipping to the States and back will cost more than the guitar. And as much as I'd love to return to your fine country full of wonderful (inexpensive) quality guitars, I can't see it happening for a few years. |
