Collings SJ. Spruce top w/ flamed maple back/sides. This plays and sounds very, very sweet. First maple backed guitar I've had and I'm very much loving it. Body size is similar to a Takamine NEX, maybe a tad fatter in the arse. Fit, finish and ohh-la-la is typical Collings standard.

Nice, too bad it's has the skinny neck. I love mine that I got earlier this year.
Got to change the tuner bottons. You going black?
Or white grained and go with white pins too?

Yep, love mine also.

The SJ is definitely on my short list for maybe after the first of the year.

I turned my ebay Collings search engine off so I would not be tempted!

Fat bottomed girls, they make the rockin' world go round. (oops ... wrong thread?). :)

That's a seriously nice guitar. Congrats.

It's not really a skinny. I measured up a bunch of mine and posted it all over on the Tak board. This one is a 'tweener.

A tweener for Collings would be 1-23/32. I have seen a few of their guitars listed with that nut size.

Does it feel more like a 1-3/4 or the smaller size?

Looks just like the one that Lanaki was gassing over just a while back...It's very beautiful Dave! Congrats!

Personally, I can't wait for the Martin OM-28V that will be on its way to SW VA in about two weeks! I am really excited over that one!

Dave: Thanks a bunch!

Nice Dave.
And, imo, never "off topic".

In the latest issue of Fretboard Journal (John Scofield on the cover), there's a long article on George Gruhn. Evidently in the late 80's he helped design several guitars for Collings to build, with Gruhn's name on the peghead. There's a pic and one of them is identical to the SJ...

I had one of those. It's more like he talked about what he wanted but Bill Collings made it happen. There were only about 30 of these made. They were very good but they brought about half the amount that a Collings would. I bought mine from Ghrun's shop and I asked why they weren't much money and the answer was the name on the peghead. They were a dread and the SJ type, that's what I had. Nice guitar but a skinny neck.

You know, for a guy who keeps beating the proverbial wide neck horse, you sure did build a shit load of skinny neck guitars back in the day now didn't you ... Who was your target market, Peter Pan ???

When you guys up on the varsity team get tired of all these nice Collings models that are now all the rage, those of us down here sweatin' with the JVs may get a chance to feel the magic as well.

The thing about the Collings is that they hold value so if we ever do get tired of them or just decide to sell to try a different model, the prices will still be on the higher end of the scale....probably more than now.

so.....I am saying "don't wait for us to sell". Jump into the water....it's not that deep. :D

I do recollect this, Stephen. The disease is infectious, although Mark's immune system has, for the most part, remained stronger than ours.
