I realize in a few years I'll be going to college, and Vipers, D-18's (and hopefully a Les Paul by then, will be very expensive to replace if stolen.

But I want to play a guitar while at college in my spare time.

It doesn't have to be awesome acoustically, but I'm not going to be bringing an amp (that might get stolen too), so I want it to have a decent sound.

I want the most inexpensive Ovation offers.

Granted, this won't be until a few years, but I just want to know what I want until then.

Thanks,
Steve

Well, I guess I'm old enough to be your father ...

My son has been away at college for the past few years and faced exactly the same problem as you. He's got 2 nice guitars at home and when he left for college he asked "So Dad, which of your Ovations can I take to college with me." Ummm, we had a little father to son chat and I explained to him that under no circumstances were any of MY guitars leaving the house. Much less end up at some frat party.

So he picked up a Taylor Big Baby for about $300. and I've got to admit that darn thing put most of my Ovation collection to shame. Amazing acoustic sound and great playability. I just don't see how you could beat it for the money.

If you're dead set on an Ovation, by all means pick up a celeb or cheap used balladeer. For under $300. you can get something really nice. But according to my son, the woman love wooden box guitars. I guess that explains my college days.
