Picked up the 2080 off police hold from GC (prior thread)and it is quite a instrument. It quickly became very apparent that I will never be the functional equivilant in playing ability, but that is another story. Have to thank the collective OFC for preparing me to be "on point" to a guitar I had never actually seen much less ever played.

Couple of questions
>What exactly does CVT mean?
>Do not see it on the 2010 price list, does that mean the 2080 is discontinued?
>While I have "cracked the code" on the Ovation site, how many were actually made?
>Any advice specific to this instrument?

Glad you're happy. Always good when you take the plunge and buy something sight unseen, to be happy.

As to your questions, I don't have a clue as the any but the last (and people will chime in with the answers over the course of the day). And the answer to the last, as to advice, is to enjoy and play a lot!

Kent, I love my 2080 and also find it exceeds my talents. Some things I've noticed:

It is a bit mellower than my wood topped Ovations, so it needs bright strings. It also needs the right pick. A medium Ultex or Fender sounds good. A thicker pick adds to the mellowness much more than on other guitars. If you find your 2080 too mellow sounding, try a different pick.

It is very sensitive to right hand technique, again much more so than my wood topped Ovations. So experiment with gentler picking in addition to regular strumming.

The VIP is best used with about 40% image and boosting the highs just a bit. It is easy to overdo the image.

I don't know exactly what CVT stands for, but it is a woven carbon fiber top, as compared to the unidirectional carbon fiber on the discontinued models.
