I am looking for advice please. I want to purchase an ovation that has the best tone for under $1000 used. I don't care about collect-ability or color or rare or fancy. ALL I care about is tone.
There is so much great knowledge here, and while there will be different opinions and comments on how tone is a personal choice, there must be some universal truths.

I want the ones with the traditional center round hole.

I don't care what year. Perhaps you could tell me which years were great sounding?

Welcome Mitch. An A-braced Legend is what you seek. If you're looking for best sound and don't need a cutaway, the 1617 or 1619 or even 1657(same basically with more bling) are easily had at under $1000. If you don't need electronics, the models are 1117, 1119, and 1157

 

Here's a 1657 Anniversary Legend...

 

A 1617 Legend...

 

A 1619 Custom Legend...

 

 

And though I didn't mention it above, the 1651 qualifies (aka John Lennon model)
