Location: Germantown, MD | Sorry I was on vacation when you posted, Willard. I had my right knee replaced on 19 December 2002, was going up and downstairs four days later. I was driving by January 27, and that was with more swelling than my doctor had expected just after the operation--which slowed physical therapy. I hope yours goes even better.
The worst part is that I now set off metal detectors. This sounds like a trivial thing, but some of the security people seem determined to make the ensuing search as humiliating and unpleasant as possible. They seem to think that anyone who sets off the detector is a terrorist until proven otherwise, even if the person is carrying a card certifying the type and location of the implant.
