Hint #1: Play 'till it hurts.
Hint #2: Repeat daily.
Hint #3: When it takes more than 12 hours to hurt, take rest breaks.

After 10,000 hours, you will be a certifiable guitar genius. (or commitable...)

Welcome aboard.

Also, don't worry about your guitar sounding crappy when you play it just now.
In 10,000 hours it will sound much better; after you have played the s**t out of it.

Welcome, TH, from another Iowa transplant. I even have my Hawkeye tie on today. It's good to have a member even older than me.

Welcome TH. Come get together and play with some other old farts ... and I'll come too. ;)

If you can make the trek up to Southern OC, I'll come down from Santa Monica when I'm there and we should hook up, maybe with the moody one. Just getting together and jamming with people will do wonders for your playing, even if it only involved three chords.

welcome t.h.
i'm new here as well. congrats on the celebrity. my only advice would be to not get overwhelmed at first. if you find yourself getting frustrated trying to learn something, move on to the next thing or put the guitar down for a while and come back to it later. most people who quit playing,(in the beginning) do so because it becomes more like "work" than pleasure.
once you learn the basic chords and ways to strum, the sky is the limit!
