I have a question for you guys. I recently sold a 1991 Ovation Elite 1868....and now I miss it so I am looking for another. Herein lies my question....

To me Ovation model numbers are very confusing...as far as trying to figure out which are the better or perhaps lower end models. I am used to dealing with Taylors where the higher the model number the better the guitar (So to speak).

As far as the Elite 1868 goes, is it like a middle of the road Ovation, higher end, or lower end model??

Well, better is always in the eye of the beholder, but, if you're addicted to super shallow bowls, there are some models you should try (to find) out:

1984 Collectors - some here say one of the finest Collectors models - and one of the best super shallows

Adamas 1881 - carbon sandwich top - different animal, would be my choice

Custom Legend - 1869 - AAA grade top, lots of abalone (you can see one in my sig)

or, when it comes to the nex LX series, there's the

Custom Elite LX - C868LX

Best regards,
Kurt

Along with the Custom Legends (top of the line round hole Ovation) the Elite is the top of the line Ovation wood top w/multi-wood epi's; the ssb 1868's are one of the best gigging guitars made. I played one for years and just sold mine. The used ones are readily available on eBay.
