Recently picked up an Ovation super shallow body guitar (2nd Ovation, 3rd acoustic, 5th guitar). Happy with the tone and most of the playability. It has replaced my Legend as my main gigging guitar (3x/week). Light weight, looks great on stage, and has great tone plugged in. There are a couple of things I would like to change regarding the neck...so is there a better quality replacement neck available?

I like the external battery compartment and the pu has plenty of gain. The onboard tuner is nice, and the Padauk top I am happy with as well. I don't care for the fret inlays as they are too difficult for me to see and the neck plays OK to the 10th fret but I prefer one that can play to the 15th - easily. I like .010's but this guitar requires .012's to eliminate fret buzz in the first 3rd of the neck.

I am open to buying another "nicer" super shallow body and I do not have a particular price point. I am looking either to make this body have a better playing neck or purchase another guitar with better playability and fret markings. For open "cowboy" chords and lead to the 10th fret, this guitar is wonderful. For E shaped bar chords past C and lead past the 10th fret, this neck simply is not the workhorse I need.

All thoughts appreciated.

Looks like an Adamas II 1881 cutaway is what I might be looking for.

Hey Flash, I have a 1778T with the same problem, severe fret buzz at around 10/11/12, especially the G B D strings. In my case, I think it just needs the attention of someone who can set it up right, and that's not me ;-)

I don't have one, but I've wanted one for a long time, and I think you might like the EA-68 Viper. I think they've got everything you're looking for: great playable neck, access all the way up the neck, thin body and great plugged-in tone.
