Jonmark...I just looked at your website and I wish I could give my Ovation bowls the brown finish you show in the pic. I know it's just in the image, but I'd do it in a heartbeat if I knew what to do.

Hey John-
If you're talking about the Viper, it's the natural mahogany. I do have an 82 Legend with one of the brown painted bowls but I don't think there's a pic there.

Amazing actually, Does Ovation have the first Acoustic Baritones as another of their many "First" achievements.

Probably not. I think Fender had their 6 string bass (30" scale)in the early 60's. In fact I had one strung A2A. Probably part of what got me thinking about a longer neck to get the string tension higher so they wouldn't flap about like they did on Gordon's little parlor. I don't know of any others but I'd bet Ovation wasn't the first.

There's a -5 now living in Greece that was the best I've seen/heard/played/owned... ;)

Great story Beal! First-hand history is an experience rarely encountered, so I always enjoy a great yarn like that!

Dweez, I've no doubt you'll get your chance to compare your 93 with an 87 (or a Book) some day. With a deal hound like you, it's only a matter of time. :p ;)

Wasn't the 93 the first to come with factory installed string tubes?

Yeah, Dweez. All the best sounding O's have them. Some guy who used to be here, Standingovation, was selling them as an after-market item, amazing things. Don't know what ever happened to him.

Keep a good lookout for them. If you can find them get as many as you can.

They were tiny little tubes that facilitated re-stringing. Kept the ridges of the strings from "filing" into the wood as you slid the string thru the bridge, thereby keeping the strings' "grooves" from picking-up wood fibres.
DEFinitely made strings sound better/longer.

I MIGHT have an extra set or two lying around, I'll have to check.

Whatever HAPPENED to ThatGuy, anyway??
He just "disappeared" . . .

I've still got 5 litres of the interior bowl paint. Even wood boxes sound better with a couple of coats.

If only they hadn't engineered out all these industry firsts. Maybe then Ovation would have been able to buy Fender.
