Location: Rocky River, Ohio | Hi there, I have a question about my 1113, but would apply to all nylon Ovations..
After 20 years of string changes, rather large grooves are forming on the bridge where the strings are tied. Has anyone else seen this?....If so, is there anything that can be done to minimize this from happening, maybe a piece of felt?...all comments welcome.

Location: Upper Left USA | Have not seen this on Nylon instruments but I have read about the fixes with Peg/Pin mounts on steel string bridges.
Stewmac has a number of bore/plug tools as do other Luthier Suppliers.
Short of replacing the bridge there may be a means to plug the holes and then re-bore. |

Location: Omaha | A good luthier (or woodworker) should be able to shave off the top of the bridge and build a new tie block, perhaps out of a harder wood like ebony, or out of another material: I've seen them made out of bone or ivory (now illegal to harvest).

Do these grooves present a problem or is it just cosmetic? It could be a mark of a war torn guitar ala Willie Nelson. Guitars do get worn in after years of playing. If it doesn't affect the sound quality, consider the grooves a badge of a well worn instrument, seasoned and "groovey"

Over the last couple of years I started using the Pro Arte extra hard tension strings....
The grooves are presently cosmetic, but it does seem to be getting worse.
The grooves are worse under the 3 unwound strings.
I guess I'm just worried that eventually the groove will dig in so far that it will eventually reach the area where the string threads through, preventing me from restringing the guitar without repairing it..
I thought about putting a thin layer of felt underneath to give it some relief, but was worried I would lose sound quality or sustain.
The other solution I thought of was trying ball ended nylon strings, but I have heard they don't sound nearly as good...
