Location: Gaithersburg, MD | I am deciding between the 2778LX and Ultra Model 2178. Other than the fact one is made entirely in the US and one is assembled in the US, is there any significant difference? Both have the Deep Contour Bowl, LX Bracing and OP Pro Preamp although the Ultra has a AA Spruce top while the 2778LX has an A Spruce Top.
Any information or thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Jeremy

Location: Tennessee | The main difference is in the neck. The 2778 will have the traditional US five-piece neck and the Ultra will be two-piece Celebrity style neck. Also, I think the 2778 will have the inlaid epis and the Ultras have the older style glue-ons. I don;t put too much stock in the top grading since that seems to be very subjective anyway. Either way, you won't go wrong but if you can swing a US made guitar there are some benefits to resale value and more importantly, the factory warranty you get. |

Location: Central Massachusetts | The LX would have:
inlaid epaulets, rosewood bridge, Original Patented Pickup, and the ANS (dual action truss rod with carbon fiber reinforcement) neck.
The Ultra would have:
non-inlaid epaulets, walnut bridge, "High Output" pickup, non-LX neck (no truss rod cover)
The good folks in New Hartford would definitely take care of the LX lifetime warranty. Are the Ultra's serviced in CT?
Edit: Bobbo beat me this time. Both do have 5-piece necks, just different technology. And both have lifetime warranties.. but look into who services them. |
