Location: Seymour, Tennessee | I'm sure some folks get tired of some of the questions I ask but....
I e-mailed my Mom and asked her to take some photos of the 68 DB and the 12 CL (they are in storage at here house till I come home).
I also asked her to let me know what the inside labels had on them as far as serial numbers go.
I knew the oldie was A-970 but I wasn't sure about the 12.
I had the CL custom made back in 90 in remembrance of my Dad.
At the time they only made 'em in a deep bowl, full body configuration.
I wrote them, told them I wanted a 12 CL bt with a super-shallow bowl and cut-a-way.
CWK II wrote me back and told me how much, how long to make it, etc.
I doubt very much he'd remember some order from an 18-19 year old kid but he made me feel really important.
I wrote back and said I wanted it and asked if they needed the payment if full or how much of a down payment was required.
He wrote me back and said they started the guitar right off the bat and I could pay it all when it got to the dealer.
I went into the Marine Corps and the guitar was finished about two weeks before I graduated Bot Camp.
The guitar was invoiced a god bit cheaper than what I'd been quoted.
I figured they made a typo or he was just being nice to a kid who loved Ovations and wanted something special in honor of his Dad.
Anyway, I'd alwas thought the sticker had a serial number ending in an X or something to designate it as something different.
Mom looked on the original invoice and all it had on it was:
Stock No. Description
22768 1759-5 OVATION AE CST LEGEND 12 BLK
S/N 415035
19560 9117-0 OVATION MOLDED SHALLOW CTWY
...and the price.
I figure the -5 stands for black.
But isn't 1759 the designation for a full body deep bowl 12 CL?
I have all the documentation to verify it's authenticity, I was just curious if I was right about the 1759 number?
Anybody know? |

| Great story! Al might have a better answer since he specializes in custom orders. The invoice seems to describe the base guitar model (1759, which is a deep bowl non-cut Legend 12-str), then you have the part no. for the shallow cut bowl (9117-0).
The one-off custom O's I've seen have a handwritten label inside, sometimes cryptic, sometimes detailed, that designates it as a custom. Have you mom look at the label inside the bowl and see what it says. |

The label itself is where you'll find the good info. |

Location: Seymour, Tennessee | I had her check twice and she's gonna send me a picture of the label.
Shes certain all it says is Custom Legend 1759.
I'm stumped.
The scribble is on the paperwork so only it's value is wrecked :) |
