I had an Ovation 12 string Legend 1759 stolen from me some time ago. I bought it new in 1997. It was an amazing sounding Guitar. Ovation is going to custom make me a new one, but they said they no longer have the OP 24 Pre Amp.(Which is what my old one had). Which Pre Amp Should I go with? There have been so many made since then, I don't know what to do. I am new to this fourm just today and am looking for someone who has played several and can give me some expert advice. Which is the best Pre Amp to go with and why? Randy

I think the new pre-amp and pickup system is the best, based on what I have heard. It is what is in the LX Guitars.

The problem is...our guitars are permanent family members, but preanps become outdated. I like the new preamps because we have no idea what new technology may be available down the road. If you like something that's offered 8 years from now...just pop the old one out and the new one in. The only choice you have to make NOW is do you need Lo-z out. I personnaly can't live w/o it. "Optima" is still my personal favorite: tuner, notch filter, best S/N ratio, quiet. The new "Op-Pro" on the LX and CL30 - don't like it at all - no notch filter, volume is on only after 7 or 8 out of 10.

If you prefer the Op-24 for any reason, contact me. I have a spare one from an Adamas II (I replaced it with an Optima).

PA-

Just to clarify, you have a spare OP-24, not an OP-24+c? I had contacted the mothership about having one retrofitted into my Elite, but I'm interested in the onboard tuner.

EDIT:

Just to clarify...not that being in tune would improve my playing...at least not so's anyone would notice. :)

I've only had experience with the optima and op50 preamps. I have an op pro on the way...kinda a little concerned 'bout what I'm hearing about it.

Anyway...I preferred the op50 to the optima for one single reason...the mid-shift button. I got closer to the "sound in my head" with that lil button- it totally improved the sound. Unfortunately, there was another lil problem with the op50 that was kind of annoying.

I'm not worried about the notch filter missing on the op pro. I've NEVER had an instance to use it, regardless of what venue I've played...and I tend to play loud. When it comes time for me to play Madison Square Garden, and I need a notch filter for that kind of volume, I'll put in a call to Ovation...maybe they'll be interested in my input by that point...!
