I have a somewhat banged up 1617 Legend that looks like it is an anniversary model made in 1967 or 1968 from the ovation website. It is the dark sunburst model 6-string that looks like the 12-string Glen Campbell model that I have seen occasionally. I have not seen any of these 6-strings however. I would like to know if this is a collector's item, and what the value of this guitar would be.

Model 1617 Legend came around in about 1972. Was available in Sunburst or Natural. Nice guitar but not really a collectors item especially if its banged up. There's quite a few of them out there. Dave

What's the serial number? It should be on a little white label inside the guitar. That will tell you when it was built.

But Tup's right. There are a lot of them out there and they're not really collectors guitars.

Do you know what this guitar would be worth on market? It plays perfect but has a 6 inch long hairline crack on face and many scratches near tuning knobs. Also, the Ovation website "crack the code" says this guitar was made in 1967-1968. Is that incorrect?

Chagreg, I think you're confusing your four digit model number (1617) as the serial number......Do as moody p.i.(Paul) suggests and look inside the soundhole and above the oval(?) shaped sticker with the #1617 (up near the neck block) you should then see a white sticker with a SIX digit SERIAL number....

Find where your serial number fits and that will give you the year of your guitar!

OH!.......and welcome to the board! :D

Tough to say. Legends are very common and a beat up one isn't going to hold much value. Maybe $250. Just a wild guess.
