22v410 is selling one of these on the For Sale page.
In the description, it says 1,177 were made.
I'm not trying to step on his thread but I am almost positive my 88' is serial number 1593 and that they made upwards of 1,600 of them.
This is maybe the second or third time I've seen production figures quoted at 1,177.
I'll ask my wife to check mine the next time I talk to her.
It's possible I may be mistaken but I'm pretty sure I'm right.
Anybody know?

According to the Ovation web site they say 1177 1988 Collectors were made, like they would know. But we also know their web site is not always 100% accurate, the OFC are :)

I bet you someone will have an explanation.

Well, here is the reply from Ovation...

Michael,
The serial number and the quantity of guitars actually produced generally have little in common. This can happen when guitars are rejected in production, damaged in warehousing, or a million other reasons. If your paperwork matches your guitar, then you should be all set.

I'm surprised that say mine was the last one built (I know it isn't) there are some 416 didn't make it through production or whatever.
Interesting to me anyway.

That does seem a rather high number. Wonder if they cannibalized parts for other guitars?

Maybe, I had asked them about it because I was concerned about possible problems should I need warranty work done.
Or if at some point I decided to sell it and someone questioned the number because their site says they only built 1,177 of 'em.
Who knows?
As long as I have an answer from them on it that'll suffice.

Oh yeah G8r,
How 'bout them Dawgs? !!!!!
Gators are gooooood eatin'.
