| Hi Folks!
Got a quick question: Are there any particular 12 string models that have a neck width on the thinner side? I generally play my 1618 at gigs but she's gettin' a bit old and I'd like to keep it at home if'n I can. So to replace it for live gigs, I figured I'd see if there were any models that are slightly less wide across the board. The 1618 isn't too wide really, but it's not completely confortable either. All the local music retailers in this area don't carry them...just 6 strings, so I can't just go in and play 'em to see for myself. I'm relying on the fine folks here on the forum to clue me in. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :-) |

Location: Tennessee | I believe all Ovations 12's have the 1-7/8" nut width. Sometimes a 14 fretter like my 6759 can feel skinnier than a 12 fret (it was like that for me) but that's more due to neck shape than the nut width. You need to check them out for yourself to be sure. I once had a Rickenbacker 360/12 that was TOO skinny. |

As much as I love the Ric 12 this is too true on all their 12 stringers except the couple of wideneck versions.I have a difficult time doing cowboy chords on a standard Ric 12 string neck. |

Location: Texas | Rickenbacker 12's do have relatively narrow necks, but that tight string-spacing allowed Roger McGuinn to play two pairs of strings (four strings total) with just one fingertip, which freed up more digits for hammer-ons, etc., which (arguably) contributed to his unique style and sound. That narrow fretboard takes some getting used to, you may even have to modify your "standard" left-hand grip somewhat, but, imo, no other guitar can get THAT sound, and it's worth the effort to adjust to the narrow neck if possible...
But I think TBone is looking for an acoustic, and we may be taking his thread in the wrong direction? |

| Yeah, I was looking for a new acoustic so I can "retire" my G. Campbell to home use.:-)

| Ah, that's a very good idea! I think I'll do that... Thanks FlySig! |
