Hello all!

I have the opportunity to get one of these guitars at a very good price. Unfortunately, the guitar is 8 hours away from me and I have never played one before and no one near Charleston, SC has one for me to try out.

What kind of sound characteristics should I expect? Any other experiences with this model would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

I posted this in the for sale area by accident...wanted to move it to the correct forum.

Dave, just go get it! If the price is good you won't be sorry. If you do hate the guitar you can sell it for what you paid for it.

My daughter Sara has a Ute which was her high school graduation present. For comparison I have an Adamas 2080, plus we have a variety of other Ovations.

I would say the Ute is a bit crisper acoustically than my 2080. It is clear and it has excellent string separation when strumming a chord (you can hear each string not just the mishmash of the notes). It is every bit an Adamas in every good way. The nut is slightly wider than the regular Ovation/Adamas, and of course it is a 12 fret to body neck. I find it very comfortable to play and so does Sara, so I would say the dimensions are not problematic for the average sized adult male or female. That is, the neck doesn't feel either "short" or "wide". It has a deep bowl which for me is the most comfortable of all the varieties.

Plugged in it sounds just as one would expect. Deep bowl, Op Pro preamp, Adamas. I'm pretty sure it has the XLR jack but can't confirm that because her guitar is not here at the house.

I don't have any good recordings of her Ute unplugged. This video is marginal but at least gives you and idea of how it sounds plugged in.

Not many made and a desirable guitar.
There were two that sold in the past few weeks and these were the first two to pop up for sale in quite a while.

Do it. It's a no frills fingerstyle special. All the frills are in the sound. Fantastic bass that shakes the walls in my basement when I strum it. The neck is just right for fingerstyle, but not too wide for playing barre chords. Of the 3 Adamas guitars I have, this may be the best sounding and it is a fraction of the cost with a modern preamp. It's also surprisingly light, which makes it easy to grab and play.

Well, it looks like I may have my first Adamas soon. I spoke to Al (thanks again for the great support), and I think I have my wife convinced to allow me to get it. The main challenge is the guitar is 400 miles away from me. I found a local dealer (in the same town as the guitar) that will check it out for me and ship it to me as well for a modest fee. My dad lives close to where the guitar is, so he will bring the money to the seller for me.

Very excited about this if you can not tell.
