Hey guys my name is tyler. I have been playing guitar for 12 years but have never really messed with ovation until now.
I just picked up an 80's legend 1617 and so far have been loving it.
I do have a few questions.
1st. The guy said he lowered the 1st string so if I play many leads I may want to raise it. All I know is that string is the worst part of the guitar. It barely plays past the 6th ish fret. Any idea what he did?

2nd. Past the bridge I noticed there is a bump in the top. It's not much but I don't know if it is normal or not.

Any thoughts?

Lowering/raising 1 string isn't how it works. all 6 are affected. Pics would help.

That's what I always thought, wasn't sure if there was something I didn't know about it.
So really I just need to throw a shim in there and should be fine. I think I have some that will work great.
I'll work on pics next.

I have seen guitars where people filed the nut slot and/or the bridge, and/or combined with partial shims to do some strange things with regard to action or to compensate for things like warped or twisted necks.

Anyway... Welcome. You are free to post about the cabin.... err.. website...

From what I can tell it's missing one of the stock shims so my guess is he removed one. I'll try that first. The next doesn't Seam to be warped.
Any thoughts on the buldge in the top?

And how do I attach a photo?

You are now a member... You can ask your question in the General Posting section.
Only a very few members can answer you in the Welcome Center.

As to how to post photos...
You can check the box below that sez "Attach a File After Posting" and attach the photo.
Or you can post your photo to another hosting site, then post the address here.

As to the bulge... That might just be age. The guitar is over 30 years-old.
But photos would make it easier to answer your questions.
