Just got back from the show. WOW it was great.
I have never really been a fan of Michael Macdonald's music but he has some great pipes and a band full of Nashville/memphis players that just groove. They were smoking. Aside from the Doobie Brothers tunes, they played a pile of motown and it just grooved, it was a pleasure to listen to people that could really play their instruments. especially noteworthy was the horn player Awesome.

Steely Dan were great also. At first I did not like the band it has a few player changes. Of course Cornelius bompus passed on and there was a new horn player but also noteworthy was a new drummer, bass player and back up keys. One of the 3 backup singer chicks was also missing. Well after a few tunes it grew on me and I even liked at least half of Jon Herrington's guitar solos. I dunno why but he just does not seen to fit in with my interpretation of steely dan but what the hell do I know, becker and fagen has kept him around for a while now so I guess he knows what he is doing.

Donald fagen looks like a serial killer in his dark glasses and Walter becker like a demented freshman english professor. Becker laid donwn some tasty guitar licks. He played thorough a bognar and top hat amps with a rack of effects that I doubt he even useed. but his playing gets better every time i see him.

At the end of the night, Michael Macdonald joined Steely dan on stage and that was great. Hearing Michael sing lead and backup to some of my favorite tunes was a treat.

If they stop near you go and see the tour!!!!!

Wasn't MacDonald in Steely Dan before he went to the Doobies? He is a terrific musician!

I always thought that Becker reminded me of Al. Maybe it's just the above description?

Steely Dan & The Doobies... Nice concert. never would have thought to put the two together. I need to take more time off and get some tickets...CSN&Y are playing tonight up here at the Performing Arts Center here in Saratoga and I am looking at tickets as high as $500 each for front row.. Man we baby boomers are all just wacked. And I am guilty of lack of proper preplanning....

All work and no play is making Jack a dull boy.

I need to buy some tickets and go unwind soon. I always liked Steely Dan.........The girls don't seem to care... whats on.....as long as it plays till dawn...........no static at all.............eeeeF eeeeeM..........no static at all.....

My wife and I are checking out the Steely/McDonald show 9/3 at what used to be known as Pine Knob north of Detroit. It's a super outside venue - should be a great place for that show. Never seen either of them "live", considering I was in elementary school when the Dan was making hits during the '70s.

What a tremendous show last night! Al hit it right on the head - Michael McDonald's band was fantastic, and the Dan did what the Dan does best. Donald Fagen's voice seemed to be a bit more "nasal" than I remember, but the backup singers helped him out. Some highlights were: the backing singers taking the lead on "Dirty Work", a killer version of "Aja", and of course Michael McDonald coming out at the end for lead on "Do It Again", then sticking around for "Peg", "Kid Charlemagne", "FM", and "My Old School".

I agree w/Al about Jon Herrington - obviously a very good player, but some of his solos didn't seem to fit like I thought they should. Larry Carlton is a tough act to follow, I suppose.

Well worth the $$ - go see them if they come to a venue near you.
