Joined: December 2004 Posts: 573 Location: Denmark | Hi. I am wondering if Ovation necks are interchangeable. The reason I ask is that I would like a shallow single sound hole Ovation in good condition with a pre Kaman-bar neck. They are not that common. The relatively few guitars of that description are often offered at very high prices. So I was considering taking an old neck to a newer body. Is that possible?

I was not aware that the shallow bowls were younger than the K-bar. I have also considered 1983 collectors or a Balladeer 1861. But - I just would like it to have the softer (flatter) and lighter neck profile. LX's are very rarely seen where I live.

Any comments about that guitar would be appreciated. Does it have weak spots - where should I be en garde? Thanks for your opinions. Edited by tpa 2014-06-14 4:25 PM

What are these high priced examples you speak of? Hi Damon67, Thanks for the answer. Ad 1. You're probably right the SSB was introduced first in 1983 with a Kaman bar. And they probably did not issue new models with the old neck. http://www.ovationtribute.com/Ovation%20Promo/1983%20Collector%20Ad... Ad 2. The general availability of various Ovation models and their prices are (unfortunately) bad in the country where I live. Speaking only of these two - availability and price - the easiest and cheapest way to get one would probably to travel to USA and find one, new or used.

This has Truss Rod access on the headstock. So... the 1861LX is a Super-Shallow Bowl Center Sound-hole Ovation. Helpful? ![]()

Joined: December 2004 Posts: 573 Location: Denmark | Thanks OMA. Helpful indeed. I took a peek on: http://www.ovationtribute.com/O_Decoder/Ovation_Decoder.html to see the models of interest which includes the 1861 and 1867 and I suppose that I may end up looking for a LX. This will probably also have better electronics than the oldies - its just so very very rare to see a LX over here, even rarissimo to among these few to find a SSB with sound hole. I will need luck.
