Joined: February 2014 Posts: 714 Location: moline,illinois | Hey guys I found a 1997 Adamas 1587-5 online that has some damage but I love this model and thought for the price it would be worth restoring since no more will ever be made.The top looks great and the neck is in good condition but there's damage to the binding around the cutaway and upper bout so that the top has lifted and the neck is tweaked with really high action.It was pretty scuzzy when I got it, we've all seen this sticky stuff on the body and a fretboard dry as the desert with missing strings but I cleaned it up treated the fretboard with F1 oil and restrung it and it sounds great just hard to play past the third fret due to the action.I plan on sending it to the MS for repair once I raise some funds.has anyone ever had the AST suspension ring replaced on an Adamas? any idea how much this kind of repair could cost.I'm going to part with a couple of my less played ovations so feel free to look in the FS section to see what I'm letting go. Only thing is I don't know if they have that capibility to do that type of surgery anymore. If they say they can, I would get it done sooner than later considering the state of flux Fender is in. | ||

OMA has an Adamas 12 string I was able to use epoxy on the binding to repair because the neck wasn't affected. This sounds like a little more effort and John and company will due a fine job. A worthy candidate by all means! | ||

I figured it would be a pretty penny to fix but I'd have no problem putting a 1000 into getting it fixed right. I do want to send it soonest which is why I'm trying to sell a couple guitars rather than waiting to save the money,i'm planning on emailing John Budny this week to get his opinion and proceed from there, it almost goes without saying there's no one I'd trust more to work on Adamas. | ||

Joined: June 2012 Posts: 2333 Location: Pueblo West, CO | I'm not sure they can re-top the guitar. The CF Adamas doesn't use a binding in the classic sense. Instead, the suspension ring combines the kerfing and the binding into one, single unit. (the ring) Below is a pic showing a cross-section of the bowl, ring and top. To fix the cosmetic damage on the ring, they'd probably have to replace the entire body, including bowl, ring & top.
