| I recently noise a hum, (likely a grounding issue) in my Pacemaker 1614. This guitar was refurbished at the factory several years ago. I believe they are the original electronics, single volume control. Anyone have similar issues?, or ideas, maybe this is normal but I'm pretty sure I would have noticed it before. I checked all the solders and connections. Perhaps I need a new preamp/battery/volume pot. Anyone have one they are willing to sell? The saddle pickup is good, no noise on the volume pot, just some noise in the circuit I never noticed until I recorded it direct. I can live with it, but would rather not.

| Sorry I meant 1615 pacemaker. What I need is the pre amp that attaches to the volume knob and Batteery pack. I guess they are attached so battery pack and preamp. The saddle transduce is still fine. If anyone has one they want to part with , please let me know. Not sure if the factory still stocks these old parts. This unit is definitely gone noise and crackling ids getting worse. |

Location: sitting at my computer | Hum bug?... time for some Scrooge remover!  Hi murph, are ya certain it's the preamp? Your statement "...I never noticed until I recorded it direct" makes me wonder if the hum is being caused by the recording interface or its connection(s). |

| Yeah definitely the pre-amp. I checked the solders and grounds on the circuit board, cleaned them up and sprayed contact cleaner on the potentiometer. Most of the noise is gone. a very intermittent crackle, but when you turn it down to zero, there is a loud pop, which would seem to be the potentiometer. I can live with it, but sooner or later its gotta go. A new one is $150, plus shipping to Ontario plus UPS always hits me for taxes and "brokerage", which puts the cost Canadian at about $250. If there is a spare one in someones parts box, I'll pay a fair price. Shipping USPS never has taxes or brokerage. Or I could get a K and K passive transducer and use it with the preamp I have on my Board for my Larrivee. Then I have 2 hole in my body where the volume and battery screw go.

If you get a K&K, I think that you can find plugs for those holes.
(I am not sure where... But I know that they exist  )

| Thanks for the info on the holes. Didn't know they would mail. probably better to stick with Ovation yeah better do it right.

Just to be sure, I checked around my room and I found a box that John sent me and it has a UPSP sticker on it. And a preamp can came in that box, so I single knob preamp would fit in the same size box.

| Definitely will ask. Just Noticed on John's e-mail , he's telling me they have the stacked volume/tone control pre-amp. Will this affect the sound? , mine has no tone control. |
