| Hey, everyone! Just joined up to ask if I made a good purchase and if I'm gonna have a good experience.
I've been playing guitar for around four years now, and I've never touched an Ovation. I've always been interested, but never had a chance to get my hands on one. So, a few hours back, I ordered myself an Ovation Ultra, model number 1528 (not sure about the finish name/top material, adding pictures). I know very little about it and I'm looking for some information. Also, was this a good choice for my introduction to Ovation? |

| So yeah, don't know how to attach pictures. So I'll have to describe it:
Purple top, a very strange pattern, maybe birdseye? Normal soundhole with a thick black/white rosette. Pretter sure it's a shallow or super shallow bowl. Neck/headstock is black, and if it's wood, I don't know what wood it is.
Paid $275 for it, near mint condition, custom-set action, studio artist owned. Was it a good deal? |

Only you can decide if it is a Good Deal.
But under $300 for an guitar ain't bad.

Yes, that exact one in fact. Was kind of wondering if super shallows were a little on the quiet side. Do I "need" to have it plugged in to enjoy the sound, or is it loud enough for regular play? |

I have a Super-Shallow Elite T. I also have a SSB Adamas
The Adamas is louder than the T, because of the Carbon Fiber top.
Both are loud enough for practicing and sharing is a small setting.
But the SSB's are designed to be plugged-in for performing.

Location: Sunshine State, Australia | It's still an acoustic guitar and doesn't NEED to be plugged in to play. If you're jamming/strumming with one or two other guitarists, you should be able to hear yourself, but if the others are getting a little excited, or you're playing lead, your guitar will struggle to be heard. Like Arfur says, they're really aimed at being comforatable for performers that are plugging in and not relying on the acoustic volume. I can't decide if I like the colour or not. I don't DISlike it... but I wouldn't want to own it... It IS unique... |

Muzzo - Yeah, I just intend to play it by myself. I just moved to the area I'm living in and haven't gained any musically inclined friends just yet. The look really is unique. I'm a dude, so going with purple kind of had me on the fence. But it's the only one I've ever seen. It's the first Ovation I've personally seen that had me saying "Wow that's pretty" besides the Adamas line. Thanks for the reply!
Arthur - Man I wish I had pockets deep enough for an Adamas. The only reason I hadn't jumped in earlier is I didn't like the look of the lower-end models. The only line that caught my eye was Adamas, and it's just a little too rich for my blood. Glad I found this odd little gem! I don't intend to "perform" anytime soon, was just wondering if it'd be loud enough to jam. Which has now been answered. Thanks for your input!
Let's hope I enjoy the sound as much as I enjoy the look! |
