I got mine from St. aLeX and it's without a doubt (IMHO) the finest guitar I've ever owned or played!

These are the types of listings that keep me in the doghouse. I would love to snap this one up but sooner or later I have to look at the bigger picture.....

the OFC guitar, the 12 fret slothead, and some of the other great guitars coming out soon.

If I am not careful, when Al takes roll call and wants some money I will be left standing on the sidelines crying in my beer. :(

I'm very tempted to bid on this.. can anybody PM me with "fair" pricing? I couldn't find any closed auctions to help with valuation...

thanks!

DVD - I'm not sure what you mean by 'fair' pricing, but I can tell you it is a smokin' deal at $635, which is where the price was at when I started this thread.

DISCLAIMER: I am not the seller, no do I know the seller.

A fair price is what you are willing to pay to own it.

I would think anywhere between the current price and another $150 for that guitar would be a sweet deal.

Of course with Al you would get the new owners lifetime warranty. (His winning personality and physic powers come at no additional charge ;) )

Our local Guitar Center has had used 2002, 1993 and 1994 Collectors Edition guitars lately; they priced the 2002 at $999, and the 1993 and 1994 at $949, for reference.

IMHO, I would think that this would be a good deal if you could get it under $850 to $900, given the highly positive opinion here about the superb sound of this particular model.

At $1K, it's still a friggin' STEAL!!!

These guitars have a very unique sound, all their own . . . .

Without running the risk of sounding like a smart-ass (moi?) . . .

. . . it really DOES "sound" the way it "looks" . .

. . . it has a very warm, "reddish-brown" tone to it.

KILLER guitars! . .

David,
The way this auction is going, it makes Al's price even more attractive for the 2001. You should go to his website or give him a call.

Agreed; call Al. This auction has taken on all the drama of what one OFC member called a 'eBay newbie death duel'.

"eBay newbie death duel" is a term I came up with a few years back even before I used it here.....what is funny is that a more experienced eBayer out-sniped both of them with 9 seconds to go!!!!

Yes, it was sniped for over a grand. What is to be celebrated is that a fine guitar like that is perceived to have that value. It is certainly worth it, compared to others in the same price range.

Unfortuantely, I believe that the beautiful figured top had more to due with the final selling price than the fact that it is a great sounding guitar. Take away that top and the price drops $200-300 IMHO.

you are dead wrong. that guitar is probably one of the best sounding ovations out there.

I can't believe the price, I let them go for significantly less.

I'm with Al.
This is no "dress it up to make it purty" PanelMeister.
Solid redwood top that gives it a fantastic sound, very distinctive, and very unlike anything else (soundwise) that Ovation's produced.

One day . . I WILL own one of these! . .

...when I was dealing with Al, I was looking at the African Cherry Collector's... but, being the astute and discerning gentleman that he is, he suggested the Redwood. I will ever be in his debt. Nothing compares to that guitar, absolutely nothing.

Thanks again AL!

Cliff and AL,
I think you missed my point.

I said that it was a great sounding guitar but that this particular one sold for more because some people will pay more for it's looks.

Otherwise, why wouldn't they just buy it from Al or someone like Al. As Al said "he sells them for significantly less".
