Don't remember the model (it was the sixties) now I want more. Just got a 1317 Ultra and haven't been able to put it down.

From L-R they are Glen Campbell Deluxe Balladeer, Standard Balladeer, Josh White, Deluxe Balladeer, Classical, Balladeer 12-string, and Glen Campbell 12-string. I'd be typing all night to tell you all about them. Just go to my website and you can find all details. Dave

Not paraded out in their captivity on the internet for other guitars to see their bleak existance and subject to who knows what atrocities, I as a member of SFPPCO (Society For Personal Prevention of Cruelty of Ovations, known to the press as sufpoopco), DEMAND that those guitars be distributed to us underguitarpriveleged minorities where they will be treated as they are deserved. This just in. I just got this 60's Ovation through sufpoopco, can anybody here give me any idea what it's worth if it should accidentally show up on Ebay?? Huh, Huh

I look at your picture and ask, where is little johnny?? :D :D just kidding .Great stuff.I see some old freinds in that pic.Freinds that were sold to the highest bidder...DOH!!

What's even more disturbing is what else is NOT in the photo - I've actually got duplicate Deluxe Balladeers, Classicals and Standard Balladeers. But the group is getting broken up very soon, sorry to say. I'm going a different direction and the closet isn't big enough (nor is my wallet). BTW, that's not your Josh White in the photo. Yours went to Paul T. he had a pickup installed and plays it out live. The GC 12 string was just refinished by the factory and that on is amazing. Kim did an unbelievable job, as usual.

The coolest thing about Dave's collection is that he's very generous about letting others play them. I was at his house about a year and a half ago, and his attitude was "pick up what ever you want". Of course, you've got to be able to find his house. He doesn't give out his address. These guitars may not get played everyday, but they get played.

Joined: March 2002 Posts: 873 Location: puerto vallarta, mexico | i like the older ovations too, ( i have more than a few) but some of the newer ones are very good gig guitars. my elite standard deep cutout is about 10 years old and is a fantastic gig workhorse. no feedback problems and i get lots of "what a beautiful guitar" comments from the audience. it has a fet 3 pre amp (my most up to date) and i can't fault it a bit. the whole guitar has that last forever feel to it and never has let me down. i can't figure why these were only made for 3 years. they also have a distinctly oxblood colored bowl like a pinnacle 12 string i had. any sushi connection there? i suspect i would really like the new lx? option in a upper end new ovation. i didn't mention that the elite standard has that distinct ovation sound plugged in. nothing cuts through the mix and stands out like my ovations.

The top was in poor shape and the asking price was $700.00. Considering the top would have been to be replaced I passed on it. Just a reality check if you can help. Am I out of the realm on what these should be selling for. I was hoping to get one in decent shape for about 6-700. Thanks John

If you're willing to put a little money into it the factory can make it good as new. You would not believe whet they just did to a GC-12 string for me. Not cheap mind you, but you certainly get what you pay for. As far as the original shiny bowls go, the Josh White is one of the more rare ones. You see quite a few Balladeers and Deluxe's, but not so many Josh White. Price depends entirely on condition of the instrument and how bad you want it. I've paid a LOT more than $700. If you can find a decent one for that price I would jump on it, even if you had to put some money into it for referb. Hey Musicamex - Ovation DOES have a museum of old models. Last I knew at the factory they had the following shiny bowls: #6 balladeer, Josh White, a proto of the Deluxe, 12-string, what looked like a dreadnaught shaped one, and an early classical. Plus of course the various adamas models including a red slothead and some Q prototypes. And the collectors room had every single year of Collector guitar on display. And that's just what is OUT of the closet!

Joined: August 2003 Posts: 63 Location: Miami, FL | Thanks Dave, Are all Josh White models the shiny bowl versions? Do you have an idea on what a top replacement averages? I have a 1619 CL in addition to this possible Josh White that should have the top replaced. BTW,the Tornado you have on ebay is one nice guitar. One more question, I just picked up another 1658 CL 12-string bringing the count to 2 and 1 1158 CL Does anyone know how many were produced as they do not come around that often, I know that Tony has a pair as well. I've only had them refinished, not replaced. A top quality refinish sould cost about $450. I imagine a top replacement is a few hundred more, but that's just a guess.
