It is my first Ovation and my favorite acoustic by far. I've wondered why there are no reviews of this model over at Harmony Central. Anyway, this is my first post in the OFC but I know there will be plenty more.

It was a 2000 1779?? you know, mid depth bowl..can't find mid depths new or used anywhere around here so I did mail order. The brightest, tinniest sounding O have ever played plugged or unplugged. Even tried medium strings. Did nothing. My S771 blew it away tone wise. I had dreamed of owning a mid depth one since I saw Ray Davies playing Legends but was so disappointed I gave up the dream and bought an all wood guitar. Trust me, it wasn't easy. BUT the CL is the prettiest, classiest guitar ever made and the neck felt like a million bucks.

There's still time to back out, you know, while you're still relatively sane...oops, too late...you're stuck here. Go see your doctor for the appropriate meds. ;)

Joined: December 2003 Posts: 1071 Location: Carle Place, NY | I have only one, an '81 1619-1. I bought it on eBay a year ago for $225 after selling a Taylor 410 dreadnaught. Taylors "ding" rather easily and I simply got fed up with trying to keep the Taylor in mint condition. My CL has a through the wood crack in the top going from the bottom of the bridge to the bottom of the guitar that I sealed with super glue as per OFC recommendations. I no longer worry about minor dings on my guitar and I take this guitar anywhere that I want. Deep bowl, stacked volume/tome controls and the pre-amp works perfectly. The frets are original and look like they will last another 15 years or so. The acoustic tone is fantastic and very loud, even with light gauge Elixir strings. The responsiveness is extraordinary. Great low action with no buzzing. The neck on mine has a truss rod, with a nice carved walnut cover, and for some reason it seems to be a bit more comfortable than some of the Kaman bar Legends that I've played. This guitar is my personal favorite and even with the cracked top it still looks great, plays great, sounds great and seems to be built to last a lifetime. As far as center soundhole Ovations go, the deep bowl Custom Legends are incomparable and if you buy one used they are perhaps the best and most guitar for the money out there today.

Joined: November 2004 Posts: 4413 | Proud owner of Custom Legend for 5 whole days. I bought it off the web (GMALL) from a store in New Jersey (AXE-ACTLY) which was a bit of a risk as I am in the UK. It worked out fine - I got it for less than half the price of an LX in the UK even with shipping/insurance and taxes included. It was bankrupt stock from a buyout at another store - so it is actually a 2002 model. The pickup/preamp is the best I've ever owned - has anybody ever a/b'd the new OP Pro preamp against it? Is it worth upgrading? What is the best type of wax to use on the neck - none of the named brands are available here? Is it pure beeswax or a compound? It's the best neck in the world - I want to look after it.
