DISCLAIMER:

This is NOT meant to become a political post, but I will certainly understand if it gets pulled.

I just want to encourage all of us to exercise the right that has just been given to the Afghans, and hopefully will soon be given to the Iraqis, to choose our "public servants" on so many levels, and to also vote on local initiatives (here in Nebraska there are several gambling initiatives on the ballot).

There are young men and women overseas right now risking their lives to protect us, our right to vote, and trying to make the world a safer, freer place. Let's not slight their service with apathy.

(If you don't live in the USA, please forgive this somewhat "local" post topic.)

(Where's the little "flag" Graemlin?)

:)

I intend to get up early and vote.

I hope I'm not rejected like last time. The poll people said that they had no record of me voting in Illinois even though I've voted here all of my life. This time they will NOT get away with it. I have my voter card, my application for a voter's card, and the knowledge that I can still vote with a special ballot even if it is later rejected.

Get out and VOTE! IMHO it isn't a right, it is a duty!

It's not just getting out and voting. It's learning about the candidates and issues and then voting. Encouraging people to just go out an vote is akin to telling my 13 year old daughter, "Just go out and drive -- don't worry about learning how or whats involved, just do it".

But whether people here agree with me or not on the issues, it's a pretty bright group of people. I hope everybody here does get out and vote.

Excellent point Paul!

Please make yourself aware of the issues & the candidates positions on them, THEN vote!

We vote by mail in Oregon. I sent in my ballot last week.

Suzie and I are set up to automatically get absentee ballots...good way to ensure you have the time that day. In San Diego, even the school board is an important election.

Thanks for the sentiment

My wife and I voted early a couple days ago. Voting is a great privilege and a greater obligation if democracy is going to prevail. Having some knowledge of why you are voting seems worthwhile, on this board I have no doubt that all of us know exactly why we vote as we do.

Please do not tell me anymore about why, I need a vacation from the political campaigns.

Well I think many people around the world will tune in with great interest to the US election.

It's quite different in Australia, we're one of the few countries where voting is compulsory so all the talk about voter turnout and registering voters in a little strange.

I know it's a cliffhanger but I hope for the sake the the American people that one of the candidates is a clear winner.

My neighbor and I got up early today and voted. We had differing opinions as to who should be elected but some were the same. It does not matter how bad it gets.......we still are one of the best countries for our democracy. Vote-It's your right and voice! :D

Rev, believe me, the issue of who is running the U.S.A. is anything but "local." I venture to say the whole world's watching.

I know you'll all do the right thing, and vote for Kerry! ;) (Uh-oh, hope I haven't started something; you OFCers are so hot-blooded!)

Why sure we're all going to vote for Kerry. Wouldn't think of doing anything else. He's so popular in countries like France, Germany, and Canada (and I truly care what they think). He also has the ability to see all sides of an issue (since he's come down on all sides at various times).

Not.

I have been asking Miles for MONTHS to put up the new bulletin board software with a members only off topic section so that all of these types of posts will be insulated from the general guitar loving population

Well said Paul.
Remember that all republicans vote today and Democrats vote tomorrow!

On a more serious note we've had early voting in Florida and it's a wonderful thing. We went last week and haven't had to watch the TV since then. I really am getting sick of all the PolitiSPOO being spread.

I also want to clarify that the early voting in Florida was not so that all the recounts could be completed by midnight tonight. That just isn't true, more politispoo from the Massachusetts I'm afraid.

moody,p.i. (Paul),

Your first point (first post) is well taken; if you don't understand the issue or the candidates, please, don't vote in your ignorance and screw up the results! ...but I didn't want to include that in my first post and get "preachy."

Your second post (in response to a nice try by our Canadian brother to cast a vote for Kerry) may well plummet this post into the place I was afraid it would eventually go...

As passionate as I am about politics, I'm not even going to watch the returns tonight. It's pizza and game night. I'm going to eat pizza and play very cutthroat Monoply with my kids.

On another note altogether, I just came in from taking my youngest to school, sat down in front of the computer and realized that I had the wrong glasses on for the computer. I've got three pairs of glasses. Bifocals for out and about (or for those in Canada "Out and aboot"), my old reading glasses which are perfect for the computer, and my new reading glasses which are for, well, reading.

Anybody else dealing with this kind of crap?

I don't wear glasses ... whether I need them or not I'm not sure ... it's just more fun living life as if you're Mr. Magoo.

Whether I'm wearing my bifocals or not, I still can't read that tiny print that it seems almost every manufacturer is using these days for those inserts in pill containers and other assorted consumer products. Don't they realize we are an aging population?

Paul....

I'm in the same boat, but I opted for tri-focals. They took about a week to get used to, but now I can focus on the computer/desktop, but, more importantly, I can see the audience, the music book and the fretboard... all without changing glasses.... hmmm, now where'd I put my teeth...

Hey Paul - I just got my first set of bifocals on Saturday... About all I can use them for is watching tv and reading the newspaper and only if I'm planning on doing that at the same time!!

Can't get use to them - now I got distance glasses, distance sun glasses, bifocals and now I will pick-up a pair of reading glasses...

Hell - the problem with getting old is that we have a whole lot more to carry around!!

Good luck today y'all - it seems that folks here are more interested in your election then we are in our own...
