Here's a follow-up.
I like it here. I liked it here when I first came here & I like it here now. I've noticed the board change over the years. It used to be *very* loose. (Go back & read some posts from a few years ago.) We evolved & matured into a reasonably well adjusted social group, imo. We gradually toned down to meet what I felt was an acceptable limit of bad taste. Some of us have lower levels & some have higher. I am certainly one of the Lowlifes & I'm fine with that. Now I have a suggestion for anyone I may have ever offended by anything I've posted-
Never read anything else I ever post! I have reached the limit of my personal *nice*. I am NOT going to get any more polite, politically correct, less profane or *nice*. Period.
I now Officially Absolve myself from ever censoring what I have to say.
Starting NOW!

Meaning no disrespect...I remember a quote: "Profanity is the feeble attempt of a weak mind to express itself." I would hate for us to chase away the more cerebral members of our community simply because they are offended by some of us. It's so simple to avoid this trouble. John <>{

Well Nils, got you wound up about this?
How nice are we suposed to be? How about reasonably nice? We all have a different definition of reasonable is but that should keep 99% of things within the limits. And when we go outside the limits we can use the @*#$*! keys instead of the other ones. S*$%, That ain't so f#@*&$# hard is it?

Nils is a pal. Never get upset with pals blowing off steam.

I, for one, don't use the funky symbols in place of curse words. Can't spell that good and I get lost. Damn can come out like "*&^$&*(^$%&" and it loses something in the translation.

According to the FCC, you can't say:
1. ^$%$&#*
2. (^&$#&
3. %$^%%*&#
4. &^%@^&(*(*@
5. %$@^&%&^
6. $%#@!*&^@%#@$
and
7. &^%^%$$

You CAN however say:
^%$@# *&%#^^@#$
(Providing of course it's within the "safe harbour" of 10:00pm to 6:00am, and that you ARE in fact referring to a male chicken caught in a vacuum cleaner . . . . )

Thanks Cliff, that #^(@!%' clarifies the issue!

Maybe I should have told Mr. Cerebral to kiss my feeble minded a$$. Would that have sounded more polite?

That 'holier than thou' Miss Sweetcheeks, that's what pissed off Nils. I will not be taken to task or reprimanded by some girl younger than my daughter. If you say things like 'pissed off' she probably thinks you're disgusting too.

Jees I am offended that people get offended by postings of an off color nature on this site? This is the real world and were all livin in it so "Get A Grip"! Some days it is brutal, and some days it is so sweet! You take the good with the bad and filter out what has no value to you.
If anyone is offended by someone else on this list personally then hey take it up with the offender?
If the messages are not in good taste then click on to another thread?
Seems kind of prudish to act as though someones bad attempt at humor or their poor choice of an expression are just to much to keep from fainting! Good God Get Real! You can't pull over on the highway and cry and risk an accident because someone gives you the finger while driving?
I get the damdest email jokes all the time? Some are just to stupid to finish reading so I just delete them. Some are sexually explicid! If this bunch is offensive enough for someone to leave then She or He would faint if they saw some of the Shit I get through Email? I don't ask for it I don't find most of it even funny. But Hey it's easy enough to just hit "Delete".
I am not sure what bubble this person is living in but to try and make us feel as though we have to be careful of their little, sanitary, sheltered world. Well now that is cramping my style man. And If I or the rest of us cater to this thinking then our new politically correct site becomes not only boring but one that many of us will most likely not want to participate in any more. Not because we are offended but because we are being limited and sick of being careful about creating an offence.
Let one person dictate what you do and you loose the whole thing.
I have written some messages that were a little to the point! I sure hope no one left because of me? well to be honest, if they did? Then see ya! Don't have time for people who are not real enough to admit they have never made an "Off Color Comment" I sure hope they find their perfect world! In the meantime I'll make do with this one.

Randy

Unfortunately, Lisa made a decision to slip away. That is her decision. She made her concerns (or observations) to Miles (whether to Miles or Al, good for her.) She came back on to explain her personal reasons/concerns for us. Again, good for her.

Others have signed up to ask a question, sell a guitar, or whatever other reason. Then, they vanish. We don't know why.

IMO, at no time have we seen her criticize.

Personally, I would hope that Lisa (and others) will check back with us occasionally with questions. If a thread starts looking a little strange, go to the next thread.

I know of no other board that would walk someone through how to restring his or her guitar, to even include where and what to buy.

I see your point Tony a good one, I think this grop went overboard in welcoming her and answering questions. Just look at the number of responses to her questions and posts. We all are guity of being tastless from time to time, well maybe I am the only one who is not?

One point I think your skipping over is; the repercussions of anouncing you are leaving to the administrators instead of just simply not posting any more and going away. I don't say "good for you" I say, "nice parting shot kid"
Al and Miles must feel a sense of obligation to this person and have to remind the children that we all have to play nice.

Obviously "This person took some pleasure in this or she would have done what she said and "GONE". Yet we still get posts?

perhaps patronizing?

Not sure any more?

If it's the Religion thing, then hey, just go ahead enjoy the Ovation Fan Club it's not for you to worry about. God fogives the fools for they know not what they do. Or something like that. Right? You won't get dirty reading a bad word on the internet? And I am pretty sure this group already has a lot of guy's who are " " Religious and proud of it. They seem to be able to function in the real world quite well. Live and let Live don't try and make everyone just like yourself.

I am not sure why I am even typing a comment about this whole thread? I guess I just can't take the whinning and the sensitivity of someone who spouts religion but does not practice tolerance. Shut and lock the doors Lady? It's a big, bad, world out there if the word "Shit" typed on a computer screen can send you into a tailspin!
Loosen UP, Lighten Up, take a Chill Pill, and Get Off Your Horse.

I guess that's my 2 cents? Not sure if it's worth a penny?
