These were designed by me, submitted to the RNC and were approved for use in various applications, most notably here. ![]() The banners in the picture are a whopping 36-feet wide by 100-feet tall. They're being affixed to the four glass "towers" around the Garden. Two are as you see here, and the other two have the flag background but without Lady Liberty. This picture was taken (by me) from the northeast corner of the roof of the Farley Post Office across the street from the Garden (which provided a bit of a "crotch-twitch" as there was no railings up there at the time). The banners and other decorations were PhotoShop'd in as part of the presentation process. Madison Square Garden has always been a very special place to me (as I mis-spent a LOT of my youth there :-) and I am somewhat proud that my work has been chosen to temporarily adorn it (politics aside). Where else but in this great country can a guy who's been given this honor be the same schmuck that put Paul Hebert in a dress?? y'GOTTA LOVE this Country!! (I know I do) Please forgive this not being an Ovation/guitar/music post, but this is about as CLOSE to "Playing the Garden" as I'LL ever get!! ;)

I'm happy for you. I would've loved to have seen you up on that roof without any railing. But I'd be watching from the ground. I know...I'm a Wus! :D

Nice job Cliff - I'll be in the city August 27-30 (slipping out just in time for the fun to begin), but I'll look for your artwork while I'm there. I think I'll be visiting the city more often now, both kids will be at NYU, so let's plan to get together in the near future. My son already has his hardhat and gas mask ready for the inevitable conflicts that will accompany the protest marches. Viva le revolution. He finds it hard to believe that when I was his age I was also a flagrent liberal chanting and marching for the impeachment of one Richard Nixon. Now I'm just a stuffy old conservative looking for more upper middle class tax breaks. Ahhh, to be young again !!!

The point of this being, that when I am with someone and your great work comes on the TV, it will be easy to forget and say, "I know the guy that designed that!" Great work, Cliff! noel

My wife's cousin is in the 'overly large-to-freaking-huge' banner business (there aren't many that do banners that size from what I understand)...would be quite the coincidence... Looks great!

Is it true that around the edge in what looks like a decorative border is really fancy script that says "Taylors suck, Buy Ovations"? If you look at Lady Liberty in a mirror over your left shoulder does it really look like John Lennon? On the tablets in her left hand, is that really the sheet music to "Sweet Home Alabama"? Now tell the truth, Did you get Al to wear a dress to act as the model for the statue? Good work! I'm sure I missed a few so we'll have to wait for the cd to come out and go over the cover with a magnifying glass to get the rest.

That graphic should be left on The Garden after the convention is done! Man they sure do it big in NYC! Hey to be funny I don't think you should bother with hiding ovation symblols in the graphic's I think you should have put a sixty foot long Ovation guitar, of your choice, on a strap around her neck ! Now that would have won ya a free trip to the Factory! Very Cool Cliff! never seen nothin like it man!

Joined: March 2002 Posts: 14842 Location: NJ | Thanks, guys. Not that I don't appreciate being "stroked", or that I am in ANY way deflating my absolute PRIDE in this whole thing, but to put this all into "perspective" : Before "I" was up there gracing those towers, my "predecessors" (in exact same dimensions) were: "Alien vs. Predator" Will Smith and "I, Robot" And a snow-driven Lady Liberty jutting out a frozen NY harbour in "The Day After Tomorrow" . . . None the less, I DO get a bit of a "kick" out of seeing my work being a bit of the landscape of the City that I love and the million or so people that'll trodge past it every day. I AM quite proud of it . . I have yet to actually see it, though. I'm here at work today, working on the look of the INSIDE of the building now! (EVERYTHING has to be DONE by a week from YESTERDAY . . oy!) It has been confirmed by someone though that one of the banners are in fact "up" (the location depicted in my posted pic), and the exact quote was "Awesome!" Tony: I could always use a tenor uke ;) Crusty: You're right, there is a proliferation of companies who do this kind of work . . We even have our own "in house" production facility in my company's Chicago office (who does most of our work). For logistical reasons, these were produced by a local company who has the contract for the Garden (just made sense). Bill: The thought of "subliminal messages" was the source of MANY nights lying awake, but with child support and college tuition being the source of many MOREso, I decided that discretion would be the better part of valor . . . (the CD cover is a thought tho . . . . ;) )

GREAT art work, I had a neighbor in San Diego when we were all poor that did commercial art with his wife out of his cheap Clairmont rental home like we all lived in, they installed a beer kegger and as soon as they completed a project, PARTY TIME, we would all congregate at their flat and drink beer and admire their production and it was amazing. We would then get high and plan the revolution as soon as we could raise our kids and get free again. Just watching them work was sobering to amateur "artists" as things would emerge on his drawing board like magic, a blank paper would become an ad in minutes (probably because he wanted to get to the beer before it was gone). We all became conservatives as our kids grew up and probably are admiring your artwork from their Lincolns as you will be someday. Good work. Bailey
