Just curious to see if there are any trends based on input. Play On! John L. Legend LX Balladeer LX Std. Moody is shipping his to me at this very minute to do the first live test case. It's been done on 6 string Adamas, but never before to my knowledge on a 12 string.

First I don't think Ovation has made their best guitar yet. They are getting close. Troughtout the years there have been elements. The Early slotheads sound great, but what about the electonics of the day. Some of the 12-stings are nice, but I can hardly call a 12 string "all around." Last year I think this would have been an easier question to answer. This year, with the advent of the LX elements, I'd have to say I'll wait for the LX or similar system to get into an Adamas before I can choose the "best all around" guitar. Right now I'd have to choose TWO guitars. Probably a the original Slothead and an Elite LX.

Seriously, to me the best all around guitar from Ovation would have to be the LEGEND. I mean, as far as I'm concerned the Legend IS the definition of Ovation. And you can have it in any flavor you like - old, new, deep, shallow, cutaway or not, acoustic, at least 10 different preamp systems, lots of finish choices, 6 or 12 string, historic or LX, etc. etc. etc. Yes, to me this is the best all around Ovation.

However, for best all around, I'd have to go with the Custom Legend. I truly believe they reached near artisan perfection in that model for both sound and appearance. Jeff

Jeff  You are both wrong. Everyone knows that the best Ovation ever built was the 1989 Elite (1868) serial number #382205. Why, yes, I do happen to own that one. Why do you ask? :p

The only drawback is that it appears that a horse team harness would have to be used as a strap, and they are getting harder and harder to find on Ebay. It also was about right for use as a bathtub in the old timey way of setting up in the living room by the heating stove and each person taking their turn based on their social standing in the household, Daddy first, then that cute neighbor lady, then Momma's sister, Aunt Suzy, then Momma throws out the tub and water in a fit of anger and us kids have to wait a few hours while the water heats on the cook stove again. that's an ALL AROUND guitar. :D Bailey

Fortunately, Aunt Suzy only came to visit when Momma was in the hospital having us kids. That super size Ovation would be a great "birthing pool" for the modern under water birthing movement. Momma would have embraced staying home by the heating stove and having my younger brothers while keeping an eye on Dad. Best ALL AROUND guitar by far. Bailey
