I mean!?
For heavens sake!
For all their knowledge and of all the guitars they've made they came up with the 93C, I'm at a loss for words.

It crops up when someone withholds a critical detail when asking a question. I happen to think you love your 93C, but the way you phrased your question was ambiguous.
So, are you lining out bait with a purpose or, as others seem to wonder, are you displeased in some way?

YES I LOVE MY 93C!
YES I WAS BEING PARTICULARLY AMBIGUOUS!
I was being a little provocative just to try and highlight to people that the 93C is a GREAT guitar. Ovation really came up with the goods when they designed and developed the 93C.
It's perfect. The looks, the wood, the tone, the feel. Great stuff!
Now if anyone can honestly tell me the 87C is better well... |

Location: SoCal | Deep vs. Medium bowls. I've got a GC (1627) reissue and have borrowed a 30th CL. Same basic guitar except for the depth of the bowl. The 30th CL has way more power and sound. No question.
But having said that, the GC RI is a great guitar. Just not as many cajones...... |

Location: Boise, Idaho | One of each is the only way to resolve this dilemma. Damon, the 1537 is the first Elite and an icon, but I don't consider it the ultimate because there was much more development. The 87 kind of had everything thrown into it and then there doesn't seem to be much of what I consider improvement. The Book was an 87 in a different dress.
I agree with Moody on the 30th CL, but I thought dweezil was only into the multiholes. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | We were at the Trace Elliot booth hanging out with Entwhistle enjoying brandys and coffee. Earlier in the day we'd watched Gordon Giltrap try to play a little parlor guitar tuned down to C or B. It was awful and the strings flapped all about. That was the second set. Steve played with him the first and it didn't click so Gordon did the second on his own.
Then there was the jam session in the Trace booth with Steve and a young girl from Romania or Czeck with a Django style guitar and an older guy from France with an F hole archtop. They couldn't talk to each other but were playing all this kinda gypsey jazz. They were gathering a crowd and after 20 minutes John couldn't stand it so he grabs a bass and says "plug me in boys" and goes over and joins in. His fingers are flying and he's all over the place. After two minutes he leans over to Steve and says "What key are we in?". By then we had quite a crowd and the noise police came to shut it down. They saw who it was and that there was only 10 minutes left till closing time so they had a beer and watched. At closing time we shut it down and John looks at Steve and they start laughing. He said "You play that thing like Debanjo Rheinhardt" There's the name.
So the excitement was over and we walk back to the hotel, a 45 minute walk in the lovely March drizzel. As we go the comment was made "Gordon's second set sounded like shit" "Yes It did" "How about if the neck was two frets longer....." There's the long neck.
25 minutes left to go to the hotel. "What should we do for the collectors series next year?" "Bring back the shallow bowl like the Glen Campbell I was playing when I met you" "OK, good idea, and a thin line saddle for more acousticness but still able to plug in" and on and on. We designed it on the way back to the hotel. There's the 93
The only thing we didn't do was the cedar top, production was spruce. Everything else was speced out on the walk back to the hotel. Ovation had nothing to do with it, just two lunatics walking in the Frankfort rain
There it all is. Those of you who have seen my music room bathroom have seen the picture of John and Steve from that afternoon where he signed the banjo head, "Don't pick it, it will never get better" |

If the $ was there, I'd already have a "book". You know which one. You struggled with it yourself. I saw the wheels working in your head. (hmmm what daughter can I say this is for?... hmmm...) |
