While not nearly as cool as the Steely Dan concert Al got to see, my wife and I went to the outdoor botanical gardens concert series tonight and saw Air Supply perform.

Russell Hitchcock still has an impressive voice that was in perfect form and pitch all night long and watching Graham Russell play guitar was like watching Pete Townshend back in the day. I was amazed at how he could jump around, pose, and move to the music and make their pop tunes look like heavy rock and roll.

They played about 100-110 minutes and covered all the hits plus some other tunes. I went because they were one of my wife's favorite bands of the 80's but I have to admit I was very impressed by the professonal show they put on. This was not some typical reunion rehash just to make money.

IMHO, all the songs really stood the test of time and sounded very fresh.

I think they said they were going to California next and playing Humprheys in San Diego and then on to Las Vegas.

TONY, BRUCE, FRED, et al.....you should really try to check them out.

GREAT SHOW!

Something about those 70's disco/love rock bands I just can't relate to, even though I grew up in that era!
In all fairness, I did see the ABBA concert special on the PBS membership drive the other night. I actually found it pretty interesting somehow. Pretty high energy show, lots of background stuff I wasn't aware of. Never thought I'd be able to sit through DANCING QUEEN but I made it

28, you may be all alone on this one. Personally, I thought Air Supply failed the test of time 5 minutes after the album came out. But they did fare rather well in the Solid Gold top ten week after week, along with Journey and Kenny Rogers.

I felt the same way until I saw them the other night. I was impressed and the wife was "very" appreciative ;) that I took her!

Don't get Excellent music confused with an Excellent Delivery and performance by Professionals.
I never liked these guys, or Kneel LetmechangemynametoDiamond or Kat Litter or any of the rest. BUT, they are professionals. I went to a Kneel Daimond show once, great show but....
Hey, I once even saw John Davidson do a great performance. The music was still shyte but it is nice to watch a professional work.

cwk2...I think you nailed it. Hadn't thought about it in that light but you are absolutely correct!

Regardless...the wife was "very" appreciative! :D

sue and I always have an arguement about air supply. she heard it all the time in the 80's and I never heard it. at the time i was listening to alternative rock and spent my time in a band doing originals. last christmas or 2 ago she bought me their greatest hits as a joke. I never even broke the wraping on it

My glass is half full friend says, "If mama's happy, everyone's happy." Mine was happy when I took her to a Neal Diamond concert once. I think I scored more guitar points Saturday when I actually left the NW OFC gathering in time to make it to my mom's 80th Birthday party and play and sing for her.
I've put those points in the bank until I stop by GC on the way home tonight and pick up that 12 string Balladeer.

I suspect they will be used up tonight when I walk in with the Balladeer and the Jasmine. I'm rehearsing the "but honey, I just walked in to buy some strings and they gave me this guitar and the other was on sale, so I couldn't pass it up." Makes sense to her when she says it.

No, no, no, no! Do not try and bring comparative logic into the discussion.

In my experience this only makes them mad where they were once annoyed. Your mileage may vary.

BTW-Good to meet you Mark, let's do it again sometime other than your mothers birthday.

My wife and I met in a Logic class in college. I helped her get a B, while I got an A. Without my help she probably would have flunked. She was a difficult student then, as she is now.

You, sir, must have an incredibly comfortable couch.

Or perhaps you haven't taught her to read yet.

. . . the wife was "very" appreciative! . . .

It'd have to be "Blow Job Appreciative" (BJA) to get me to sit through Air Supply.

I'm trying to think of ANY Air Supply song that would be muscular enough to "make them look like heavy rock and roll." I'm failing.

No offense to any true fans of the group, but we always classified them as "wimp rock." It's the kind of drek you would hear on the Delilah radio show today (and if you've ever stumbled across THAT atrocity while changing the dial, you'll run screaming from the room!).

My wife loves the Delilah show. I make fun of it and especially the people who call in to the show and ask for advice. If she wanted to go see Air Supply, I'd take her and enjoy it. Stephen's a smart man. I'd prefer Air Supply over most any of the grunge rock of the 80's. I can't stand concerts where the volume is so high you can't understand any of the lyrics.
