I have a Viper from about 1978 that is maple body and neck. It has a gold Glen Campbell signature up on the crest on the headstock and I have not seen another one of those. Maybe they are real common, but I don't know if this is a special edition and has other special features or not.

Any additional info would be a help - I'm not selling or anything, just curious.

I uploaded some photos in my gallery - DougoBlue - Viper.

Welcome Doug!

It doesn't sound like an everyday find. Post some pictures if you could.

Thats a GEN-U-WINE Glen Campbell Signature Truss Rod Cover.....on a beautiful looking viper!

Just the right amount of gold in the signature and the bridge to contrast against that gorgeous golden colored maple.

It's for real, no modifications were made at all to that guitar.

I almost considered selling it a few years ago since I normally just play my Tak acoustic/electric, but I'm glad I kept it. I play it a lot more now since I purchased a Marshall amp. It's got a great clean tone to it, fantastic action too.

I have a Viper that I bought new about 1978 and it is a GREAT guitar. It don't need no steenkin GC truss badtcheses to crank out hot music.

However, there are those here who would rather have the GC truss rod cover than a hot guitar, they also put gold spinners on their 1978 Cadillacs and try to simulate a modern sound system with old wooden stereo speakers parked on the rear window ledge and poorly applied Wal-Mart window tints.

The glory is in the sound, the great looks are just a bonus.

Welcome

Bailey

I was also describing my Toyota Tercel that I rescued from the junkyard:

Bailey

I see your jumped in a creek is doing good, here is a comedy song I've been working on since I bought Luis's '88 Toyota Tercel that he bought from Lisa that Billy wrecked. I've been trying to get it in good condition after the Mayfield High shop class rebuilt the engine and worked on the brakes, etc. I went to the junk yard to get a sun visor, the rest is history below.

She was short and beat and ugly
But she had four gears on the floor
I thought she was a one man's lady
A totally, completely ugly '88 Tercel

She broke her sun visor on Monday
I called every parts store in town
They said she was old and ugly
And they don't keep that crap around

I recalled that on the west mesa
Was a long time friend of mine
Mel the junkyard keeper of the junk yard
keeper of history cars of auld lang syne

I arrived at Mel's historic junkyard
At the wheel of my Tercel
He walked up to my beat up car
and said I'm your best friend, Mel

He slapped my Tercel's rear end
She wiggled and made a beep
She giggled through the radio
And shook her rearend at the creep

He was short and beat and ugly
and a pervert I could tell
On Mel's face appeared rampant lust
On Tercel's rear a handprint on her dust

He squeezed her ample headlamp
and her brakes put out a squeel
She tried to hide her female pride
from this junkyard's pervert sex appeal

Well, she's short and beat and ugly Tercel
But now I have to realize
She is a thing of beauty
In a junkyard's pervert's eyes

Oh you innocent beat up Tercel
Don't you run away with Mel
He will strip you to your naked frame
and your ravaged body will rot in junkyard hell

Mel, you short and ugly junkyard Mel
Get your hands off my Tercel
Don't try to steal my Tercel friend
There's lonely Chrysler K cars without end.

Glad you liked Mel the junkyard pervert from hell
He seduces innocent small sedans
and cannabilizes their body parts to sell
He lives a life of junkyard sin
A greasy dusty uncouth devil's kin
Who sits in an office full of parts he stole from my Tercel

Bailey (and others)

I don't mean to imply that my guitar is necessarily better than a standard Viper, I have just never seen one with the Glen Campbell truss rod cover. My reason for the post was to try and figure out if it had any additional modifications. I suppose its possible the guy I bought it from just put a GC cover on there, he never mentioned it to me. Naturally I just assumed it was some sort of special edition and maybe more rare than a standard issue Viper. I haven't really got any new information here except that someone maybe has or sells some truss rod covers with gold Glen signatures that look similar to the one on my guitar.

My only point is, it is a great guitar, if your's has been improved or is a special edition, that will only make it better.

Glen Campbell played a lot of Ovation guitars, he might of had a truss rod cover installed to ID one he owned or played.
