Hi Everyone,

I'm T.H. from So. Cal. via Iowa. I haven't played a guitar in almost 35 years, but went out today and bought an Ovation Celebrity GC-28. What a beautiful, affordable instrument.

I'm starting fresh on the learning again. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Happy strumming.....

Welcome TH! Ask anything you want and you'll get many stupid and brilliant answers.
If you haven't played in 35 years you must be a lot older than the rest of us :)

I guess you'd say I'm an aging rocker. Just turned 60 this week. Great era to grow up in. Got to see the pioneers of rock in person: Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who, Bob Dylan, Jethro Tull, the Yardbirds and so many more that you wouldn't believe.

I've never been much of a player, but I still enjoy it.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome....

Welcome T.H.,

Try playing along with a favorite artist on CD. It will help you ear and get you up to speed with chord changes.

Tips?
OK ...

1)Buy a tuner, then,
2)Take some lessons, then
3)Buy a book like, You Can Teach Yourself Blues Guitar, by Mel Bay. Go thru the book on your own, then
4)Start learning some guitar centric songs, then
5)When you get to about 12 songs, find someone to play with.

Play everyday, even if it's just five minutes.
Get a subscription to Guitar Player or Acoustic Guitar ...
Buy music gear on a regular basis.

Buy a Guitar Stand!

Someone told me that long ago, and it is true.
If your guitar is in front of you, you are more likely to play it.

And Welcome.

Absolutely!! My #1 guitar is out on a stand in my study and I pick it up anytime my mind starts to wander from my research, even if its only for 5 minutes at a time.

Also, log into this forum regularly. Cognitive dissonance sets in and you start thinking "I should be playing my guitar instead of reading about other people's amazing guitar collections and getting jealous".

Also, Welcome. This is a great community.

At 60 it puts you at least 13y and probably as many iq points ahead of me........... at least according to a majority here.

welcome T.H.

Welcome, T.H.;
Here on the board you will learn everything you've ever wanted to know about Ovations and Adamii, and everything you never wanted to know about everything else. A very eclectic blend of the useful and useless. ;) :D
This is a wonderful place to hang out--we kid each other, laugh (and occasionally cry) with each other, encourage each other, annoy each other, some of us pray for each other, but...the family resemblance is most notable in our passionate devotion to Ovation guitars.
If you don't suffer from GAS now, you probably will--an inherited family weakness.
Welcome aboard--the ride will be a good one.

Cliff's gotta be dead. If he's still alive, he'd be... ah let's see, well, old! At least he'd look really old......

Welcome T.H. Next time we have a gathering up here, you'll have to come on over.....
