The AD-II is also the only current Ovation production model with a deep bowl. I asked Rick Hall and he said that there is a little more attention paid to the signature models.

Early models have truss rod, '83 and later have Kaman bar 1719-Deep bowl, Kaman bar, OP-24 pre-amp in early models then better pre-amps as they were developed by Ovation. 1769-Same as 1719 but with cutaway 1869- Same as 1769 but shallow bowl. The new CL's and the 30th Anniversary model have LX necks and OP-Pro pre-amps. The AD 1769 now has OP-Pro and boost switch for lead guitar stuff. I think it always had the boost but with a different pre-amp. New ones probably have LX neck but I'm not sure when the switch was made from the Kaman bar.

Some older ones had truss rod necks and A bracing, but most of the truss rod Legends have VT bracing. The A bracing was first introduced for the Custom Legend in '74 and it took some time before A bracing became standard for the Legend. I think the Kaman bar became standard on all Ovations in '84, but some O's had it before then.Side note, do you know what the regular ol' Legend (first year with Kaman bar) had for bracing?

I also had the 12 String version with a deep bowl.(can't remember the model number, but was very attractive with an old natural top that glowed. I actually donated the 1869 to a missionary in Mexico, now I'm kinda' missing it. I guess I never really new how the ADII was better until now. I'm sure the deep bowl and upgraded electronics are the big factors. I THINK the rosette is also inlaid instead of the glued on type.
