I'm thinning my herd to make room for a new one.

Ovation Elite
Factory Modified Model 1537
I bought this guitar new in the mid 1980’s > I paid something like $1600 for it then

Original Specs
6 String Acoustic/Electric
Body Type: Deep Bowl
Top: AAA Sitka Spruce
Bracing:
Scale Length: 25 1/4
Fretboard: Black Walnut
Fret Inlay:
Bridge:
Rosette: Wood Epaulets
Pickup:
Nutwidth: 1 11/16
Machines: 24k Gold

About a year or so ago I sent the guitar back to the factory and made some custom changes to the instrument;
1) Change from a deep bowl to a medium bowl
2) Provide a cutout for easy high fret access
3) Refinish the top.
4) Chang out the electronics to the newest and best OVATION Provides.
OP-PRO Preamp

GAIN: Adjusts the overall output level of the preamp. LOW EQ: Boosts or cuts the low frequency elements of the guitar's sound. MID EQ: Boosts or cuts the middle frequency elements of the guitar's sound. HIGH EQ: Boosts or cuts the high frequency elements of the guitar's sound. PRE-EQ: Selects or bypasses a preset tone enhancement ciruit. TUNE: Activates the built-in tuner function. TUNER DISPLAY: When you play a note after pressing the Tune button, the Tuner Display Window displays the following information with symbols: Tuner Enabled, Note in Tune, Note Flat, Note Sharp. BATTERY PHANTOM: he bi-color LED performs several functions. (1) To indicate power up (2) To indicate low battery and (3) To indicate phantom power for models equipped with an XLR output jack.

I’m asking $1100.00 OBO
I will email pics to anyone with serious interest

This sounds very interesting. With all those mods, does it still sound like a 1537?

Good luck with the sale.

I'm sure it's a nice guitar but begs the question when does a 1537 cease being a 1537 ?

I've only had one Ovation so I don't have a good means of comparison. The old wood has a nice mellow sound with nice overtones. as far as when does it cease to be a 1537? I'm not sure but my take would be as soon as any non factory modification takes place. I call it a 1537 because that is what the people at the factory called it when they put the sticker on the new body. Like I said, I would be willing to negotiate on the price.

They replaced the bowl and made it a cutaway but didn't replace the top?

Not that I am aware of. They charged me to refinish the top.

Pretty good trick. The Wizards do some amazing things, though.
Aren't those about the specs on an '87 Collectors, guys?

Guitarman21701 asks:
when does it cease to be a 1537?
About the moment that the cutaway mid-depth bowl and the OP-Pro was installed.
Basically you have a 1537 neck with some other stuff attached to it.

No... If I were going to buy it, I would have PM'd you back in April.
I am answering your question as to when it stopped being a 1537.

I'd be willing to bet that the top was changed. They don't do the top w/o the bowl or vice versa.

Is it still A braced? Sounds like the only part of it that remains a 1537 is the neck. It would sound more like a 93 Collectors.

Still a good guitar, but not a 1537.

Post some pics. I'd like to see it......

Not quite, T. Moody nailed it. The medium bowl makes it closer to a 93C.

hmmmmm, I don't know.
Cutaway top (supposedly from the original 1537 top) and neck equals 2/3's of the guitar which makes it closer to a 1547 than a 93C.

but what the heck do I know. Moody knows these old guitars better than I ever will (I just don't have the time or desire to delve into the mysteries of the K-bar, etc). Besides, the experts on this board are the reason I hang out here.

I don't see how they could have made the original top a cutaway without changing the bracing.

hwebster, this would probably sound pretty close to a 1547 and certainly play like one.

OBO means negotiate until you both come to a happy outcome!
