Let me know if you want to sell it, although I'm sure you'll have lots of takers. My daughter would have loved it, too, but I just spent twice that on a Celebrity Deluxe for her. |

Right now she is in Portland working on the 2006 Porsche Parade. If I channel some of that obsessiveness toward Ovations, I'd have a houseful. I really have a charmed life. |

Hmmm, a red 911. I have to admit that I've lusted after the mid 1980 911 Carrera's. Red w/ tan interior. Oh boy.... better to have not gotten me started thinking about that. |

stephen, if you take out the electronics, you'll have a 1337. (brown packaging tape for the sound holes seems to work best) ...just trying to help,... nice snag, peace |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Moody, 84 Red 911 Carrera with tan interior was my last car. I couldn't afford to keep it after I got the Boxster. Wish I still had it. It was the best car we ever had. Guy that bought it stripped it, put a bunch of aftermarket parts on the inside and out and is now trying to sell it for about twice what he paid me for it 6 years ago. It's a shame. Now you got me thinking about it. |

Location: SoCal | By 84, Porsche had solved a lot of problems with the 911's (chain tensioners, pop off valves, etc). They were great cars that were practically indestrucible if you gave them regular maintenance. But they were cars that demanded that you drive them with skill.
Today's Porsches are great cars, but are very expensive and have been tamed so much that anybody can drive them fast w/o driving them well. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | The demand for skill was much overblown. I had a 79 and 84 and both were easy to drive. Trailing throttle oversteer was the only problem and that only caused the tail to swap ends in the most extreme conditions. And I experienced those conditions a couple of times. But the normal driver is never going to hit a 190 degree curve at 60 mph. If you were really skilled, which I was not, you could steer with the throttle. |

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | Mark, chances are I will send it to the mothership (after the 1st of the year) for repairs/updates (toying with updated electronics and sunburst finish) and then decide between this one and the black one I have....and sell off one of them.
I try not to make profits off the OFC members who contribute on a regular basis so would probably sell whichever one I decide has to go at close to cost. |

Does that offer include the airfare and transportation once I arrive (since I assume I will be unable to drive after consuming mass quantities of beer) :p |

still, for $150..... :D
anyway, contrary to statements....the electronics do not work fine...they are dead (might be an excuse to put in newer electronics). :(
The guitar has top cracks...not laquer cracks....and it appears that the finish was sanded off by each crack and then someone tried to superglue it down the seams (pretty ugly). :mad:
Strings appear to be the original set supplied with the guitar when shipped from the factory....and only 5 at that (1 missing!). :confused:
Case is original brown with major dings but overall not too bad. :)
Based on my 1547 that I sent back to the factory for major repairs (but not as ugly or as bad as this one), I am guessing about $750 to repair the beast to like new condition.....maybe more or less depending on if the top can be saved. :o
All in all....it will still be a "like new" 1537 for around $900 which isn't a bad deal. :cool:
I just wish occasionaly that one of these "deals" would actually be one! |

I've been thinking that my daughter would have liked a beat up 1537 better than the Celebrity Deluxe I got her for Christmas, but I'm never sure. They are both spoiled rotten, but I still hate to see them disappointed on the rare occasions that I shop for them. In the last year both daughters started playing the guitar and I'm having fun shopping for them. The last time I did that was probably for stereo or computer stuff and they did everything but order it themselves. |
