Location: SE Michigan | I am offering my 2005 collectors for sale. I bought it in May 05, serial 254. This guitar is beautiful and near mint. The only thing that keeps it from being mint is a very teeny tiny slight little dent on the front of the headstock near the Ovation label (I think my Kyser capo did it, but it's very very slight). Everything else is like brand new. I maybe played this guitar a dozen times total.
I am selling it because I am finding the bowl shape is causing a problem for me when I solo while standing, it's a bit thick on the top and I prefer something that will tilt up towards me a bit.
It's truely a beautiful guitar and has amazing tone both plugged and unplugged. Still have the hang tags and registration card. Case is of course included. I am located in SE Michigan if you'd like to see it. Im asking $1100 shipped in the continental US. Email me if interested.

Adamas U681T, no need to explain.

Martin 000C-16RGTE AURA. This is the best sounding electric-acoustic I have heard. It's not much unplugged but into a PA it sounds fantasic. It's also got a nice compact body size.
or dare I say it.....
A Taylor T5. A bit pricey, but I played one for awhile plugged into a Roland and I have to say its the best hybrid acoustic-electric that I have seen, It really was a sweet guitar. |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | I find it interesting that some of the OFC 2005 Collectors buyers are disposing of them so quickly....although with a good reason!!! If I played standing up, I believe I would have the same problem with mine.

This is the smallest nick ever to be called a nick. In fact it's more of a microscopic indent.
You have to look damn hard in just the right light and at just the right angle to see it.

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Paul, standingO is who I'm thinking of. I didn't mean that he had the same reason as BrianT. Just interesting that we are seeing some quick selling of them, for whatever reason, given the highly positive buzz on the model.
I'm with Brad on Brian's honesty...his descriptions of the two guitars he's selling are as honest as one could ever ask for. I've seen the Adamas and it is a beauty.

Location: SoCal | Ok, two people are selling their 05's -- one to move up to a fancier contoured bowl guitar and one because the contour wasn't right for him. Any body else? Seems to me the fact that only one person has said that the contoured bowl wasn't right for him is a good testimony that the contoured bowl is pretty good.

Location: SE Michigan | Just to clarify; I bought this guitar for plugged in performing. Brad and I always stand and use straps. It's probably a bad habit but when I solo I like to tip the guitar up to see a bit more of the fretboard, the contour bowl makes this difficult. There are probably a lot of guitar teachers who would tell you this is bad technique, but oh well, I am too old to change my ways now.
But to it's credit I think the contour bowl is great when playing while seated. I also think it adds a distinctive and powerfull bass tone. The other day Brad and I were comparing the 05C to a Custom Legend AD and a D28. We think the CL had a slight edge (unplugged) followed by the 05C then the D28. |

Location: Earth·SolarSystem·LocalInterstellarCloud·Local Bub | I have not played the contoured bowl, but I do much prefer the round back to box back. Playing the Lowden alot I'm getting used to the feel of the box back (again), but it is no where near as comfortable as my roundbacks.
Now that is not to say the contour would be less comfortable, but the more it feels like a box guitar, the less inclined I am to believe it's any more comfortable...
but then I never understood the slipping off or tilting up phenomenon. Never ever had these problems. |

Location: boulder | First of all, I am skinny as heck and prefer a deep bowl over the contour anyway, but I have spent countless hours playing the 2005es collectors, which I just love!!!
But my point of this post is that I have seen many 2005 collectors on ebay (about 12 I would guess) all selling at a discount. Some are used of course, and some are still new. But my point is they have been all selling for far less then what I paid new earlier this year ($1379 preorder on 6 month no pay credit card). I actually bought another 2005 collectors serial # 011 recently for $900.
In my opinion, which is just that of course, Ovation should just stop making the model right now. The market is SATURATED. The guitar itself is great, nice rich tone, comfortable neck ,subtle looks, but why would I buy a 2006 collectors at full price (30% off list) when I know I can just wait and get one a few months later for 55% off the list price.
Maybe it's just me, but something is not quite right with the picture I am seeing. I am in little rush to run out and preorder or buy as soon as a model becomes available (OFC reissue exception) becomes I know I can get most every model cheaper later. And this is coming from someone who has more money then sense, and loves Ovation/Adamas.

My friends and I made huge amounts of money charging 5 bucks a head at our high school keg parties. I kid you not... we made keg runs on Mopeds to Maple Shade, the next town over. Yes, we carried beer kegs on our Mopeds! |

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | Well, this thread got me curious so I pulled out a strap and hooked it up to a roundback, a contoured bowl and a Martin Norm Blake.
Now remember....this is coming from a primarily electric guitar/bass player who got hooked on acoustics within the past 5 years.
I found that when standing, the contoured bowl sat against my body almost exactly like the Martin with the guitar in a more straight out into the audience type profile.
The roundback tended to tilt upwards at a slight angle to where I could see the fretboard more easily.
Which did I prefer..........
For me, the contoured bowl 05 collectors and the Martin were much more comfortable when standing up. Probably from years of having an electric angled the same way.
When sitting down.....for me, no contest. I LIKE the feel of the roundback sitting on my lap. I have never had a slippage problem and the rounded back is just more comfortable under my arm.
So thats my take on the two styles.
(Disclaimer....body styles might make a big difference here. I am 6'1" and 195#) |
